Ted Hans:

With all the amount of resources i have in my Logos library, strange that i am missing some Logos products! Well, only discovered Logos in 2007.

Just for curiosity, how many resources do you have? I've known about Logos since 1991, pretty early on the timeline, before it was a commercial product (beta tested v0.9 for Bob & Keirnon back when we were all still working for Microsoft together). And I still have "only" 2383 of some 10,000 products that they have available. I've looked pretty thoroughly through the catalog, though, and most of the rest of what they offer is stuff I wouldn't want. However I'm still coming across surprises every once in a while, like those two books of Packer's that I hadn't known they had, and also I just ordered Bible Interpreters of the Twentieth Century.

Wow! And I thought I was a bookaholic. Glad to know I'm outdone by someone, several times over.

Um...true confession time. How much have you got in your pre-pub basket. Er...

But, but, I can always delete stuff from it before it ships and I'll never get charged...

Hi Rosie, i shall be editing and removing my pre-pub page soon. So do not "quote". I hear this can be viewed outside the community via Google.

I will have to fight you to get it first Smile, i am still searching for a copy. Otto is a blessed guy, i cannot find Packer on Knowing GodSad. With all the amount of resources i have in my Logos library, strange that i am missing some Logos products! Well, only discovered Logos in 2007.

I bought Knowing God as a LLS 2.0 unlock, prior to Logos introducing "Series X" (2001???). In fact, as late as February of last year, it was still in my L3 library in the old LSF/LIX file format (at least on a computer that I stopped using last year); it is now in my L4 as a "lbxlls" file. Thus it appears to me that it was never sold as a "Series X / Libronix" product (after 2001), but just updated to one within the last year. Could explain why it is so hard to find now...

I wonder what would keep Logos from rereleasing it?

If it has already been scanned and formatted, this seems like low hanging fruit to me.

Perhaps there are publisher issues that are not obvious?

I know it came out in a rereleased 20th anniversary edition with Americanized spellings and a new preface. So if Logos were to rerelease it, they'd probably want to update it to those changes. (Sorry, to our UK brothers and sisters.) Hearing how much customers want something does affect the priority they place on it. But they still need to get the rights from the publisher.

Maybe they are waiting to do a "Complete Works of Packer" package until his "complete works" are complete. He's said to be working on his magnum opus, a 3 volume systematic theology. Now that would be a book to have in Logos format!

Rosie,

Did you notice that the one in Otto's earlier screenshot is the 20th anniversary edition.

My counsel to Logos on that issue would be to go ahead and release the individual volume of Knowing God instead of waiting.

I would venture to guess that most people who would appreciate buying the individual volume now would not let that diminish their enthusiasm for the Complete Works later even if it contains Knowing God. At least that is how I feel about it.

Russ Quinn:

Knowing God

The chapter on Sons of God is probably the single chapter of any book that I keep reading over and over.

Here's how it starts, "What is a Christian? The question can be answered in many ways, but the richest answer I know is that a Christian is one who has God as Father."

Later in the chapter, "To be right with God the Judge is a great thing [justification], but to be loved and cared for by God the Father is a greater."

No, I'd missed that detail. So it really would be a no-brainer for them to make it available again. It must be a publisher permission issue holding it up. Or perhaps the long list of other resources they've got in pre-pub that are taking all their time!

I didn't mean to imply that maybe they were waiting on doing Knowing God for a "Complete Works" set -- I was merely making an unrelated comment. I'd love to see a "Complete Works" package, but it wouldn't preclude them producing Knowing God on its own before then. They take into account whatever volumes you already own when you buy a collection, and give you a reduced price for it (not when you're ordering over the web, but if you call and talk to a Sales Rep).

Come on, he's 85! Let's have it to honor (belatedly) his 85th birthday (which was July 22, 2011).

I just completed an audit of J.I. Packer's course on 2 Corinthians and looking for resources found this thread. He'll be 87 in a few weeks! It would be fantastic to celebrate the occasion with more of his writings available in Logos!
