Suggestion for Notes

I downloaded Beta 3 and imported all of my notes from L3. Worked fine for the most part with the exception of some formatting issues which are really not that big a deal for me. Now what I have are hundreds of note files when I click on the file tab. It would be nice if I could store these notes in named sub-folders ("sermons", "sermon ideas", "NT Studies", etc) and those folders would show up in the file list rather than all of the individual note files.

I'm sure there are other development issues that take priority. Not being a programmer I don't know how much time a feature like that might take to develop; or if it can be done. It would be a nice touch though.

You can drag your note files to your favorites tool and organize them into folders there. It won't change what you see in the files menu, but it will be easier to browse in the favorites section.

I learned that trick in one of the videos someone posted. It is a good solution for now; it would just be nice to have the sub-folders someday. I'm one of those who creates subfolders of subfolders. Sometimes I organize files to the point that I end up hiding them from myself.

There definitely needs to be some additional organizational control over this list. It could start by dividing up the various types of files and separating them from one another. After that they should be arranged alphabetically, not chronologically by use (which seems to be what is happening now). My files are impossible to quickly locate.

I like your idea of being able to organize them in groups or folders.

The mess of the file menu is going to be a headache for a lot of folks when this beta goes public. It would be good to get this worked out in the Beta.

Isn't the mess of the file menu already a headache for a lot of folks with 4.0 and 4.0a which are already public? Yes, 4.0b beta could be a possible chance to get it worked out, but it sounds like a major new feature and they usually don't add such major changes this far into a beta cycle. I think they're hoping to move towards the release candidate phase with 4.0b, so think they're mostly just doing bug fixes at this point. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't count on it until at least 4.0c. And that's if they deem it a priority over all the other missing features from 3.0 still to be implemented. (3.0 did do a better job of this by organizing the file documents into categories with File Open and File New.)

The "mess" of the file system depends on how you use the file system. Some people are moving towards a lack of organization and relying on search functionality rather than folder structure to find files. I could go either way on this issue. It appears that Logos' existing user base doesn't operate in this fashion [:)] so folders to organize files gets my +1
