I was wondering if anyone could recommend a resource in Logos or Vyrso that is similar to a book titled "The Parousia" by J. Stuart Russell? I have looked at both sites and have come up empty. I'm curious if I have missed anything.

I am looking for a comprehensive look at the preterist or orthodox preterist view. I would rather not have a commentary on Revelation such as Revelation Four Views or The Book of Revelation Made Easy.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I could only find a reference to:-

Gentry, Kenneth L. Jr.
1998      “A Preterist View of Revelation.” In Four Views on the Book of Revelation. Edited by C. Marvin Pate, 37–92. Grand Rapids: Zondervan Publishing House.

And there is this about preterism:-

Patrons of this view according to Osborne include Charles, Sweet, Roloff, Yarbro Collins, Krodel, Gentry, and Chilton. Gentry adds Jay Adams as an advocate.37 These and others stake their position in part on the Revelation’s promises that suggest that “the time is near” (Rev 22:10) or concerning prophecies that “must soon take place” (Rev 1:1). The argument is that John himself seems to anticipate a near fulfillment of the prophecies of the book.

Patterson, P. (2012). Revelation. (E. R. Clendenen, Ed.) (Vol. 39, p. 27). Nashville, TN: B&H.

Though you said you "would rather not have a commentary on Revelation such as Revelation Four Views," I'm not sure why you wouldn't at least want to go to the section of it on the preterist view for a beginning in understanding that view, and for some references to other books for exploring in further depth.

This section was written by Kenneth L. Gentry, Jr., so I would expect other books by him on the book of Revelation to come from a preterist perspective. There's one available for Logos: The Book of Revelation Made Easy: You Can Understand Bible Prophecy.

I do recommend you read Gentry's section of Revelation Four Views for yourself, but one footnote in it is helpful for finding other resources you might be interested in: "Authors who identify themselves with the preterist interpretation of Revelation include David Chilton, The Days of Vengeance: An Exposition of the Book of Revelation (Fort Worth, Tex.: Dominion, 1987); Gary DeMar, Last Days Madness: Obsession of the Modern Church (Atlanta: American Vision, 1994)." The David Chilton book isn't available in Logos, but Gary DeMar's is, and I've provided a link to it.

Hi Rosie, I have Revelation Four Views and have read through the sections and introductions to the various views. The reason that I mentioned that I would prefer not to have a commentary on Revelation is because I was looking for a resource comparable to The Parousia. Compared to books such as "Revelation Four Views", and "The Book of Revelation Made Easy" it is much deeper. I want to go beyond the book of Revelation and look at several other areas of the Bible such as the Gospels, Paul's letters, what John the Baptist said and so forth. The Parousia is a very well rounded and thorough book about preterism. The nearly 600 pages covers the entire theological view and does not limit itself to the book of Revelation. While I can not call myself a "full" or "hyper" preterist, my hard copy of this book has been very useful. I would love to have something like it in Logos because of the searching and tagging.

I hope this makes sense. Smile

Yes, it makes sense. I was never for a moment saying you should settled for something like Revelation Four Views; I was just using it as a launching off point for your deeper research, as I was able to find in it some good recommendations of titles you might want to follow up on. I hope that made sense to you.

I do not know The Parousia myself, so I cannot recommend something "comparable" to it. I can only search for in-depth books on the preterist viewpoint, so that's what I was doing for you. I hope you found that some of my recommendations were useful even though you didn't like it that I started with the title you'd previously tried and found wanting. But really, you're probably better off waiting until someone who is an expert on this viewpoint weighs in and gives you some recommendations. I'm not. I'm just a really good researcher on just about any topic.

Thanks Rosie! I surely appreciate your help and have been using the names and ideas given thus far. I hope that I didn't seem ungrateful because I am very grateful for the suggestions that have been given. As new names are given to me for consideration, I start looking. 😄

Thanks again and I'm always open for ideas of where to look next. Blessings to you and all that have helped. Sorry if I sounded ungrateful.

The Parousia should be on CP soon. I can't believe we don't already have it!

Gabe:

This title is now on Community Pricing.

Thanks for letting me know Gabe, but I think that there is a problem.

The link worked correctly but it does not appear to show up when you look at community pricing from www.logos.com  I went to the main Logos site, clicked on "Store" and then selected "Community Pricing" and could not find it. Lastly, in the search box, I entered the name of the book and it did not show up either.

Hopefully, it is an easy fix.

I can confirm, the book page is currently only accessible through Gabe's link, but not from elsewhere (searching for part of the title, looking up the author/publisher, looking up the book on CP...)

Thanks NB.Mick. I was wondering whether or not it was just me. I hope they fix this. If not, it is less likely to be seen and bid on.

They put the direct link into the Twitter feed yesterday (and I think I came from there rather than from Gabe's post) and thus a number of "followers" plus those who see the feed from Faithlife.com have seen it.

When I bid what I think was the going price and the page took some seconds to refresh, I wondered that the going rate had moved two notches down in this short time - which probably meant others were bidding along. But it's still a long way to go.

It appears to be fixed now. I hope it doesn't linger as long as some of my other bids.

It's a caching issue, not any underlining problem. I shared the direct link before the site refreshed to display it in the appropriate places. You just got an early look. :-)

It is lingering way to long, lets get some action on this item, if every one that bid would raise their bid on dollar it would go over the top, come on guys and gales, raise your bid to 10 dollars and we might get this before the second coming gets here again.  :)
