It won't let me go back to L5--says that an upgrade is required because of incompatibility issues with some of my resources.

When Logos 6 was opened, the database files in ~/Application Support/Logos4 folder were upgraded so those files cannot go back.

Wiki has uninstall steps => https://wiki.logos.com/Logos_5_Tips_and_Troubleshooting#Uninstalling_Mac_OS_X

Support has Logos 5 Installation => https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/mac/install

I'm on Windows. How would I delete my resources (I assume I'd get them back when installing L5)?

I think the problem is my laptop just isn't powerful enough for Logos. Short of getting something more powerful (not an option), I can't think what else to do. It's not crashing or creating error messages, it's just an endless ' not responding' message in parentheses. It's got to the point where unless I have some major study to do, I don't even want to touch Logos or open it as I don't want to deal with it.

Details on deleting resources are at https://wiki.logos.com/Uninstall_Logos and, yes, you would get them back when installing L5 (with the exception of any L6 ones you acquire which are not compatible with L5)

What are your laptop specs?

Looks like I have to delete an additional folder to completely delete it. I'll try that.

My specs are: Intel Celeron CPU N2830 @ 2.16 GHz

4 GB (3.89 usable)

64 bit operating system, x64-based processor.

Curious about storage device?  Solid State Disk (SSD) notably improves Logos responsiveness.

Thanks Keep Smiling--however, I'm not very tech savvy--what does that mean?

SSD = "solid state drive." A traditional hard drive has a spinning platter (like a record player). This can cause things to be slower than having a fast SSD hard drive, which has no moving parts.

Oh, I have no idea what the laptop has--I only bought it six months ago if that makes any difference.

I don't track hardware specs but I would question whether this is adequate to run Logos properly (either 5 or 6) and so tend to agree that your earlier post about the laptop not being powerful enough is probably correct.

Hopefully someone with more hardware expertise than me will be able to comment further

That's not a particularly powerful CPU, but it should be adequate enough to run Logos. Slow application performance is a classic symptom of a machine that is infected with one or more viruses. The first thing I would do is have someone knowledgeable check out your computer to make sure it's clean and that there's nothing else interfering with it.

Unix, I believe you are aware that this type of post is directly against forum guidelines

sorry, no. Telling me you bought it six months ago is no more informative that having me determine what color your car is because you bought a Toyota. Stick out tongue Since I am a Mac only user, someone else will need to help you know where to find that info.

I never recommend a celeron processor. I would recommend purchasing a new one, or increasing the Ram, or getting a Solid State Drive. The Solid State Drive would make a world of difference.

A competitor to Logos has much better customer service, much less aggressive marketing, less risk You'll spend too much, better easier and more reliable language tools, and menus for constructing commands instead of command-line interface like in Logos/Verbum/Noet. In order to not to violate forum guidelines I won't mention which software it is - You'll have to figure that out by Yourself.

I'm pretty sure that it's clean. Perhaps the anti virus program itself is slowing it down--I generally have Word and multiple tabs up when studying, so that is probably contributing to the problem.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for the future--I really have no clue what is what. Do you mean buying a SSD as an external hard drive, and loading Logos onto that (assuming I can do that and use it on the laptop if the drive is plugged in), or do you mean buying a new computer with a SSD? I could look into increasing ram as well--can't be that hard to figure out I guess.

A competitor to Logos

Thanks but I'm too heavily invested in Logos at this point.

He meant to say install a new SSD drive INSIDE of your computer instead of the old drive. While I agree with that sentiment, if your processor is really crippled as some have suggest, it might be best just to save up for a better system.

Logos is usable on a laptop with Intel Celeron N2830, but a number of items will be slow so need to learn Logos for effective use.  Wiki => https://wiki.logos.com/Getting_Started_with_Logos has many useful tips.

Before purchasing a faster laptop, could discuss hardware specifications.

Intel Celeron N2830 is relatively slow => http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+N2830+%40+2.16GHz

Laptops with Intel Celeron N2830 => http://laptops.starapplet.com/tag/intel-celeron/ have relatively slow 5400 rpm hard drives.  Replacing internal hard drive with Sata III Solid State Disk (SSD) would notably improve laptop responsiveness.

Logos is a resource intensive application that benefits from fast storage, CPU, and graphics.  Modern games are also resource intensive so may want to consider a gaming laptop => http://www.newegg.com/Gaming-Laptops/SubCategory/ID-3365?Tid=25325&Order=PRICE noticed many models have HDD (Hard Disk Drive) so could replace HDD with SDD for faster performance. The least expensive gaming laptop with 256 GB SSD is $ 977 so may want to consider a refurbished 11.3" MacBook Air for $ 809 that has 256 GB flash storage => http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD712LL/A/refurbished-116-inch-macbook-air-13ghz-dual-core-intel-core-i5

Noticed 13" MacBook Air for $ 889 with 256 GB storage => http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD761LL/A/refurbished-133-inch-macbook-air-13ghz-dual-core-intel-core-i5

An open box Lenovo Y50 4K is $ 1,016.99 + shipping => http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834317540R

Note: flash storage and SSD have no moving parts along with being faster than a spinning hard disk.

Thanks Keep Smiling, I've copied your post for future reference for when it's time to buy a new system.
