This is an unusal week in that the top 3 pre-pubs closest to going into development are all worth your purchase: Spicq's commentary is still one of the best on Hebrews Scherrer's sermons fill the gap in Logos/Verbum where there are few Daily sermons. Sherrer also provides missional and monastic sermons - other gaps.    Prayers of the Eastern Church doesn't mean Greek/Russian Orthodox ... think instead of the Armenians, Ethiopeans, Malabarians ... this is an introduction to the Syriac church for those uninterested in the Syriac church ... and a reminder that for many early centuries of the church, this was the largest percentage of Christians.

Orthodox Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."

Ok, you sold me on the Hebrews commentary!

Thanks MJ.

I was in on the Hebrews Commentary but was previously unaware of the Prayers of the Eastern Church. I hope the exchange rate improves before they are ready for publication!

Whoa, the Hebrews commentary finally went over!  I've been in and out on the Hebrews prepub previously, and I definitely want to stay in this time.  Incidentally, how does one pronounce the author's name?  Like SPEAK, or something else?

There's a whole bunch of backstory on how Spicq's "Hebrews" commentary has come to be published.  See:

I wasn't interested (mostly due to its age) until I googled, but now, I must admit, I'm somewhat intrigued.

As the author of the two posts linked above, I am very happy to see this come to fruition. Thanks to all who pre-ordered!

And, Brian, I have been told my a few authorities that is is pronounced "speak", as you noted.

Thanks for the pronunciation help, and congrats on this title's crossing over!  After reading your blog post (linked above), I prioritized the TLNT in my library to try to start exploring some of Spicq's work.

Thanks, MJ, for good news Glad to learn Hebrews by Spicq will soon be out. My study group finished Hebrews, but it will get five stars in my library. Ergatees
