You're right, there doesn't appear to be any way to do what you want without saving the named range. But how about if you keep around a range called "Temp," and always use that name for saving a temporary range that you want to search in? You don't need to worry about deleting it...

When I enter "Edenic covenant" (in quotes) on the home page, the final quote is dropped on the results panel. When I enter the search directly into the search on the workspace, it searches correctly.
