• Re: Using Bible Software most efficiently - Logos vs Verbum

I am very grateful for the detailed and courteous replies and apologize for seeking further information and clarifications. Unfortunately I lack skills with hardware (laptops and iPads), and also with software (Logos and Verbum). But now thanks to courteous, comprehensive, expert and patient replies I feel more confident in going back to my Bible studies...

  • iPad and laptop give different results

I would appreciate help, and thanks for all the useful advice I have received recently. In trying to use Verbum my iPad and my laptop get different results. Thus doing a Passage Search on my laptop I get 22 sections, including the Church Fathers Collection. But with the iPad I only get 7 sections. Details laptop: On my laptop I have the Logos icon in...

  • SUGGESTION: additional Passage List format

I am constantly making temporary Harmony PB's so I can easily compare verses to find parallels, evaluate proposed typologies, note differences in emphasis when a story is duplicated etc. I would often find it useful to be able to replace these PB's with a simple Passage list where 1 Pet. 3:20–22, Gen. 1:2 means show as a vertical list just as...

  • Re: Does this sound like how you'd like an average member of your congregation to use Logos?

Perhaps it would be more helpful to illustrate how I'd like the average member of my congregation to use Logos if we were to study together (which is the point behind your question, I think). There are certainly parallels, but differences too: I create a Bible Reading plan. I'd recommend one commentary (probably the New Bible Commentary [one-volume...
A pericope is also artificial ... sentences are arbitrary,
Yes and no - both have a linguistic reality that keep them from being artificial or arbitrary while still permitting multiple ways to "divide the pie." Nonetheless, you clearly understand the reason for the caution. Okay, the first thing I would suggest...

  • Re: Open letter to Logos & Verbum users - response appreciated aka informal poll

I use different layouts for different jobs. This gives me the opportunity to go back and pick up where I left. I use layouts with and without Guides. I use mostly custom guides. These are the sections I include in guides: Commentaries, Collections, My content, Cross References, Parallel Passages, Literary Typing, Outlines, Visualization, Topic, Themes...

  • Re: Why I decided to take the Hermeneia/Continental Commentary Deal
I personally dont like the ICC style, neither WBC. I dont like NICOT/NICNT so much. I'm more fond of NAC, Holman, EBC, UBS, NIB, Tyndale, IVP, Boice, Wiersbe, NIVAC, ACCS. So I'm wondering if I can find some interesting stuff in Hermeneia to deal with. I'm not preaching, I research mostly, and study in academic field and/or...
