You guys deserve extra stars for your patience with us newbies. I see what you and Dave are saying, but the nonsense field searches only return the topic search results without having to wait for the complete search to finish. Isn't this what the OP was after? I could think of times this would be useful--for instance when I start to study a topic and...

  • Logos 4 Topic Search

When I do a basic search, I see a topic section at the top -- but it pulls only a small number of results. For instance, "ascension" only pulls up 4 books, but ignores some quality resources like the New Dictionary of Theology. Any idea of why it is ignoring some resources? I assume there is some way to add books to the "topic search" tab. - joel
How do I search topics by single author with multiple books in my library? The Early Church Fathers series have an author/compiler of Schaff, P but you will not be able to find the articles actually written...

  • Topic search is wrong

I tried to search my library for the topic Original Sin. I followed the format, yet get no results. However I can open a Bible dictionary and find the topic. What's wrong with this picture???

  • Search Handouts by topic?

I see how to use the passage guide to get handouts that relates to a passage. Is there a way to search all handouts by topic? There doesn't seem to be an option is the imagine search feature for handouts like there are for charts, graphs, etc.

I find most topics by using the Large text or Title search feature which you already know. If it is not one of those than its probably not the topic of the article.

  • Re: Search Forum Topics

If you do search on google you can specify an option to only search the page title. Since the forum topics are in the page title, this should help limit the results to something useful. For example the following google search will find just this topic: allintitle: search forum topics

  • Search Journals by Topic

I am trying to search through a journal, specifically the Journal of Biblical Counseling . I have the journal in a collection, and the search fields include; Author, Description, Footnote Text, Heading Text, Large Text, Surface Text, Tag, and Title. The difficulty that I am having is that those search fields are inadequate. I am looking for the ability...
What's wrong with this picture???
The <Topic xxx> search is wrong because Logos is wrong in suggesting that format! At best it will only find media/images in some (media) resources. You need to use Topic Guide or Factbook to get a list of bible dictionaries for that topic.

  • Re: Help with a Topic search please.

I'm also not happy with the way the TOPIC section works. It's very misleading to return a TOPIC result when performing a Field search eg. words-of-christ:simeon means I only want Library results for words-of-christ in a bible. You'll get exactly the same TOPIC result for topic:simeon, but as Mark says the topic field is only found in a few resources...
I believe this is the syntax you are looking for: {Label Journal Article WHERE Topics ~ <Topic Nicene Creed>}
Andrew - I don't know why a more complex search (i.e. "find all journal articles tagged with the topic of 'Nicene Creed'") would pull back more hits than the simpler one (i.e. "find all...

  • Re: Topic search is wrong

A topic search can bring back results if you turn on the "Match equivalent references" option in the panel menu. This is because some topics are equivalent to references (such as Preaching Themes) which are directly marked up in the text (and are therefore searchable). <Topic Original Sin> does not bring back results because there is no equivalent...

  • Basic Search/Factbook Topic search disparity

It would appear that journals tagged with a topic in Factbook do not show in search results when using Basic Search. I confirmed this across different topics (see example below). Additionally, why can't we have the Articles subsection for results in Basic Search when the functionality exists in Factbook?
