  • “How to Study Alongside the Church Fathers” ????

Thanks for all your support and advice to me to get Logos working at its optimum. Following suggestions I bought a webinar “How to Study Alongside the Church Fathers”, but it is giving me problems. I can look at the webinar (87 minutes), but I cannot create a personal book, whatever this is. Do I need a personal book and is the webinar enough to learn

Denise , Don’t tell anyone, but I am on the parish council of http://www.newtownparkparish.com/ , and I do not live within the parish boundaries, but I used to. Being free to attend different parishes (parish-hopping) is healthy, keeps people on their toes,

I really am most grateful for all the constructive replies I have received. I appreciate it that so many of you have spent time thinking about my concerns and replying to me. 1 Bruce, thank you for the web sites with free learning resources. 2 Richard, your advice to use simple layouts is excellent. 3 Keith, sorry for not being clearer. I changed my

Denise, you wrote: "Noel, I know you're trying hard, but quite a number of forum members aren't thrilled with 'Western Civilization'. They live (one for a few months each year) between Parthia and the great Pacific rift. • How to use Logos most successfully (Summary and Conclusions)

I have been using Logos for years, having originally bought 'The Original Language Library' in 2002 (Libronix). It needed a minimum of 60 MB hard drive and a screen resolution of 800 x 600 and an OS up to 2000/XP. Now I have 6 GB RAM, 750 GB hard drive and Windows 8.1. However my computer is very slow using Logos and I want to try to optimize my use

This is a great discussion. Thanks to all for the respectful, thoughtful and expert views expressed, with scholarship and at times humo(u)r. I benefit very much from Logos, and appreciate its resources and the support of participants. I read “It is unreasonable to think any singular perspective will suffice for all users.” But Logos does not have a

I am not sure of the purpose of this discussion For me one of the excellent features of Logos is that it is not denominational/sectarian/confessional. It is for all those interested in the Bible. Thus all of us are evangelical, interested in the good news. Before I bought Verbum I was assured it was not divisive. I would make a plea that we do not stress

  • Re: Optimum Verse Study

MJ, many thanks. I appreciate that you are giving my queries so much time. I gather from your reply you are advocating basing a study on the "Passage Guide", stripped down to a limited range of options. So, presumably you do not recommend basing regular studies on the Home Page box.

  • Re: Optimum Verse Study

MJ, many thanks for your reply. A pericope is also artificial, as different exegetes divide the text in different ways. Even chapters and sentences are arbitrary, as originally the NT was written in uppercase letters (uncials) with no punctuation. My evening study consisted of taking a chapter and reading it, then selecting one verse that I like and

  • Library Problem

In ‘Library’ I have ‘author’, ‘title’ and ‘publication date’ lists selected. I can get the library in alphabetical order for ‘title’ and ‘date', while retaining the three lists, but not for ‘author’. When I try to get the library in ‘author’ list, ‘title’ and ‘date’ disappear, and for each author I see how many resources I have. There is a small triangle

  • Optimum Verse Study

Some time ago I bought Verbum and am trying to study it. In the past with Logos 5 I used to use a layout with all the resources I wanted. Now I want to get the best way to study e.g. 1 Cor 10:6, and am confused. There are several ways to tackle this problem: Type ‘1 Cor 10:6’ in the Home Page box. Type ‘1 Cor 10:6’ in Command Box Type ‘1 Cor 10:6’ in

  • Re: New Verbum package – what next?

MJ, many thanks for your immediate, very constructive reply. I will do as you suggest. Here in Ireland most people involved in the Church are female, but you seem to be one of few women here. Is this your perception too?

  • New Verbum package – what next?

Recently I bought Verbum. For a long time I did not purchase it as I feared it would be divisive, narrow, require new techniques and make Logos 5 obsolete. My fears were baseless. Now what can I do with it? In the past I used ‘layouts’ with relatively few resources. Now would it be preferable to use ‘Home’ for studies, as doing this I use resources

ABS, when I read about 128 bit OS I just say 'Wow', Should I say to you 'Bow Wow'? I think I will stick with what I have, and not look for the beta version (5.3), or get an SSD drive. Today I spent my budget on extra Logos resources, and cannot afford SSD. I will focus on house-keeping to speed up my computer. Does having the minimum number of resources

  • 64 bit OS

Some time ago I submitted a query about a 64 bit OS for Logos. I was told it will be available in Logos 5.3. Will it then be mandatory to have the 64 bit OS, and will it be installed automatically as upgrades are now? When will it arrive? What % speed improvement in speed should I expect? Should I consider using a 5.3 Beta version? I really am most

  • Verbum: Is it suitable for me?

I have Logos 5, 5.2a.SR-7 (5.2.1.0171), Original Languages (KF) with many extra resources, but as a Catholic I am interested in Verbum. However what I like about Logos is that is is suitable for all, it studies the Bible in its entirety and not in any confessional way. So is Verbum narrow and divisive? Can I continue using all my resources? What package

FredC Many thanks for your immediate reply to me. I appreciate it. I am sorry for not being clearer. When I wrote 'click "?", then enter "delete duplicate resources"' I meant I did the following: Open Logos 5. At the top right, beside “Layouts” I click the question mark in a circle. In the drop down menu I select “Logos BS Help”. In the box “Get Help

  • Help Help

Am I unique in finding the help option in Logos 5 difficult to use? For example. I click "?", then enter "delete duplicate resources". I get "Highlighting" and "Reading Plan Options". Not very useful! I find the best approach is to ask Google my query, starting with "Logos Bible", but often answers refer to older Logos versions. I do not like to trouble
