oof, that is a long wait batman. I have the same computer then as now, and I remember running speed tests comparing the two versions (7 and 8). The result was 8 was twice as fast I think. They have definitely improved in that area. Logos starts (with lots of collections, and resources, and visual filters, etc) in 5 seconds

But, one of the biggest things they fixed was making L8 more user friendly and faster. MUCH faster. On my old computer I went from over 3 minutes to under 90 seconds! I was elated. New computer, it's now 20-30 second boot time.
Of all Bible software I have tried, Logos is the slowest to start. Despite various tricks that you can try (I do not have a large library). Someone here mentioned 20 seconds is pretty normal. This is what I'm also experiencing, so I don't think mine is unusually slow compared to others. Is it too much to ask to significantly

I hate to say this, but, then again, no I dont. When I first learned of Logos it was 3. I'm not wealthy. I was not wealthy then. Actually, I was less than a year from unemployment, of the devestating type, and making below poverty level income. I had been purchasing digital Bibles for several years, and ran into Logos and Bible Works. I asked if logos

Andrew, Thanks. finally almost done. yay!
It's doing things like syncing your documents and other data and retrieving metadata for resources. In a technical sense this is "downloading", but it's not downloading your books, so it's kept distinct.
Mike, Thanks. Oh, this was a complete nightmare. One would think I'd be used to things by now. Im actually going minimalist on install, because I have no doubts this Dell is a PoG and will be dying again, soon. I'm not sure if I hope it's before the year's warranty is up or if it dies after, when assurion takes over. Either way, I seriously doubt it

  • Curiosity: A Technical Question

So this is just a question of curiosity for technical wizards. After my 90th laptop/computer in 15 years (barely a slight exaggeration) I'm sitting here, reinstalling literally everything all over again; and, Logos, like other updates and downloads, says "Preparing to install" or "Preparing to download"; the latter sounds more like a politician who

@Larry Craig I wish series, collections, etc. would be connected. I'm not sure, if this is helpful, or if you already know, but, you can prioritize series. Authors, as of yet, I have not seen. Not sure if this is at all helpful; probably not, but, if you were unaware of the ability to prioritize series, and that is helpful, great. If not, sorry to have

Thanks Sean. Bibles, I like NIV/TNIV Lexham ESV HCSB Hopefully you have a good sense of the original languages, so you can add the Biblica Hebraica and a Greek NT. Books I really like DA Carson's Exegetical Fallacies. Commentaries I like Life Application Bible Commentary series. Mobile Ed I like Introduction to Biblical Hebrew Mark Futato and will be going through

I suppose in the end, this is why a group effort, of differing opinions and backgrounds is good. Oddly, I do not mind "Dynamic Equivalence" if the idea gets the point across; such as the NIV does. I do prefer a more literal translation, but, at the same time, where DE helps the reader better understand the point, it's probably in some ways more accurate

Indeed. My mother was an odd duck when it comes to translating. Despite all her attempts at learning Greek and Hebrew, she never got how languages work; especially when it comes to translating. She always thought translations should translate literally-- and precisely as written. Kind of Yoda speak. Unfortunately, I dont think she every studied much

Whoops. Sorry this is several centuries late, but, I never saw a response to this thread. I do want to respond, esp. since for whatever reason, I did not state why I said he "desecrated the text". I should have. Yes. You are correct. There are those who would make the argument you make in regards to "ghost" and "spirit". However, I do not see this as

Denise: Woah! I never got the notice of any replies to this, back in 2017! Discovered this almost by accident, one could say. Sheesh. I had purchased several print Bibles that year. I was hoping the Jewish Study Bible would have some insights from the Jewish perspective. I see I did not state what precisely my displeasure with this was. He translates
