Thank you everyone. This all helps. It reminds me of when the new blue colored M&M came out. Hershey's did a big campaign to introduce it. Needless to say there was nothing new in how it tasted. Putting a different colored shell on an existing recipe and calling it new may work for chocolate companies, but I wish publishers like Zondervan would

  • Revised Expositor's Bible Commentary worth getting if you have the original version?

I already have the original Expositor's Bible Commentary, and I'm considering the Revised version. For those who both sets, are you finding a fair amount of updated material for the authors that were in the first version--as in Carson, Salihamer, Ross, Longenecker, etc? I can see the value in getting the volumes written by the new guys, but I'm wondering
Yes, it may be nice for Faithlife to notate the RI pane that the base text is translated from another variant, but as an exegete I take ownership that one of the tasks I must complete is "establishing in my mind what is the best text from all the variants" Then I realize that the Bible Word Studies and Morphologies derived
I also have noted that there are times when the interlinear text is not the same as that used by translators. This is even more problematic in the OT when translators decide that the Septuagint (Greek) version is preferable to the Hebrew (perhaps as informed by Qumran texts, e.g.). It would be helpful if the reverse-interlinears
I would add a quick note- that I still refer to his volume, I believe it is one of the better, simply formatted grammars for beginners. Would love to see this volume and Dana/ Mantey, which I believe is a much better start to go further than some of the modern grammars, because of its substance and formatting.[/quote

  • Base Package Discounts Ever Coming Back?

I was hoping for some Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals on base packages for those to whom I have recommended Logos. I personally started with Bronze package that was 40% off on a Black Friday sale. If it were not for this big discount, who knows if I would have gone with a cheaper product (in quality and price). Any thoughts on whether or not Faithlife

  • Re: Compiling Filtered Word List Question

Thank you for the replies and suggestions. I figured out a solution about two weeks back but did not loop back to my original post and relay the answer. I did a Hebrew morph search on proper nouns and then used that list in conjunction with an all-Hebrew-lemmas list to get the difference. The whole point of this was to get a vocab list free of names
Thanks for reporting this. FWIW, our edition is not the Crossway Edition. It's an entirely different translation. That being said we're tracking down additional materials to figure out what is happening.
Thank you, Kyle. It happened to be the one passage in the commentary I was looking up :-)

  • Martin Luther's Galatians Commentary: Whole Section Missing?

It seems that Martin Luther's comments on Galatians 3:24-29 are missing from: Luther, Martin. Commentary on Galatians . Oak Harbor, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1997. Luther clearly did not skip over commenting on this section, as other versions of his commentary will attest. I am wondering if the omission in the version I've cited is intentional

  • Modern Language Reverse Interlinears

For those learning German with an eye toward some day reading German scholarship, I think it would be beneficial to have an option to display a standard German translation with an optional German parsing line as an inline reverse interlinear. Basically, it would be like the existing Hebrew or Greek reverse interlinear but in German. I think there are

This particular example is referenced in Gesenius' grammar (quotation below). The form looks like a 3rd person masculine singular pronominal suffix at first glance, but it is in fact a rare form of the 3rd person masculine plural. You were right. The termination ֵ֫מוֹ (also with the dual, e.g. Ps 58:7, 59:13), like מוֹ and ־ ָ֫מוֹ, occurs with the noun

This is very interesting. Bruce's quote definitely has affinities with the quote you provided. It was probably the seed thought for Bruce's quote. Good catch.
