• Theological background summary of authors

It would be good to have a summarized, theological background of the authors of the resources Logos sells. Just something to communicate whether an author is atheist, reformed theology, a Quaker, etc.... It seems this would be beneficial to the reader to know how an author is using certain terms. For instance, a Free Grace theologian would define grace

  • question about upgrading to 5

I have Portfolio LE from L4. If I just buy the STARTER 5 upgrade, then will I basically get all the Logos 5 function and keep all my current resources (over 2500), or would I have to buy the Portfolio package in Logos 5 to keep all my current resources and get the L5 functionality. I think I can swing a $40 total upgrade charge to get the L5 functionality
I am very sorry Pat that you are unwilling to listen to a person who doesn't have the right education. Can you please interpret 1 Cor. 1:27 for me?
Mr. Purcell, are we referring to those with the gift of pastor-teacher, or believers in the church in general? I have no doubt that those with worldly sub-average

Last thing...I am hard pressed to listen to a pastor who doesn't know the original languages because that pastor CANNOT on their own, exegete Scripture.

  • Re: The undeniably controversial pastor Mark Driscoll weighs in on Logos

This is not necessarily directed at Pastor Driscoll. I find it curious that those pastors today that find the technology and other resources a time-saving means of sermon prep utilize the resources through those tools which were created by theologians spending thousands of hours researching the Scripture to understand as much of it as they could, without

  • Re: Off Topic: Good and Bad Preaching

Good: the pastor either has chosen a topic, or area of the word, studied it in the original languages, worked out the translation into the language being taught, then interpreted it with a logical, hermeneutical process, so as to ensure that what he says to the congregation is what the Bible says, then provides application. Unless your translation is

  • Re: Is the "Learn to use Greek" DVD wrong?

You are welcome to contact the instructor. I am sure he would be happy to explain, or address. I would call Logos's customer service and request his email. That way there are no assumptions anyone is making and if a correction needs to be made, then it can be made directly and quickly without much delay via the forum debate.

  • Re: Here we go again...part 2...

I guess the answer is be as good a steward with what money the Lord has provided you, buy what you can at the best deal you can get negotiating with Logos and leave the rest to Him. I am not sure the forum is the best forum to lay this out...perhaps a discussion with a sales manager, or Mr. Pritchett himself would better serve your seeking to negotiate

  • Re: Forum Guidelines: No Theology Debates

A Scriptural study on unity will reveal that unity in Truth (and I think we would agree that Christ embodied the Truth) was to be sought; NOT unity for unity's sake. It is not Scriptural to teach, or take a position that we should seek unity at all costs. This is a popular heresy that allows for multitudinous, multifaceted, manifold divisions. For those

  • Re: Forum Guidelines: No Theology Debates

Mr. Pritchett, Perhaps a global point should be addressed...what is the true point of the forums and are they really serving that purpose you expected them to (they are your forums correct?)? I believe the only way to stop the theological debates, etc.... is to shut down the forums. Additionally, and I may be misunderstanding this, however, I wish that

  • Re: WHICH ENGLISH BIBLE TRANSLATION IS BEST?

I think that Mr. Caswell summed it up well. An English translation must begin with a basis on the best original texts and then...only then, can an English translation be weighed. I am not sure (and someone please correct me if I am wrong), but I do not believe a recent (in the past 20 years) an English translation has been created (for the N.T.) based

  • Re: John Calvin

Unless already mentioned here, I would imagine a good history of Christianity or Christian doctrine would provide some insight. You should look up the Augustine/Pelagian debate as that provides a good historical basis for the Reformers having concluded what they did in answer to Roman Catholic doctrine. Some Logos resources include: New Dictionary of

  • Re: sell me on it

Mr. Weaver, I just purchased this software and will tell you that if you are interested in learning to do Word studies in either language, and get to a useful point in applying the language for bible study, then this set is worth easily $1,000 or more. Of course this is my opinion and not necessarily the opinion of Logos or others in the forum.

  • Re: FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD:

Mr. West: Just a word of warning. You should understand the theological stance of any commentators/resource writers you read on such subjects since their theological stance will send their conclusions one way or another. Calvinists have one perspective and Free Grace/non-reformed theologians have another and will determine the consequences of predestination

  • Re: Anyone with this trouble....Collins Dictionary

Actually, I received wonderful assistance from a Logos level 2 technician named Beckie who remotely looked over my Mac and found some files that needed to be reinstalled and it wasn't inherent in the resource. It was particular to my computer, so most people should never experience this problem. Thanks for all the replies.

I will have to provide when I get home; however, I can tell you that I am using the latest L4Mac update for the software. I checked at work where I have Logos on Windows and I don't have this problem either, so it is just my Mac machine.

I have this resource: http://www.logos.com/product/3427/collins-english-dictionary-complete-and-unabridged When I double click and English word or just open the resource myself, it takes almost a minute to load. • R.H. Lightfoot (Robert Henry Lightfoot) resources

I noticed that the resources that include any material from this theologian are slim. I was curious what y'all's thoughts are on him and whether his Gospel on John should be considered. Our pastor quoted Mr. Lightfoot this past weekend and it piqued my interest. Thanks for any advice and insight.
