• Re: Additional good news...

They provide a fairly detailed explanation of their philosophy, manuscript sources, etc. at their site - http://isv.org/index.htm. I spent quite a bit of time looking through it today. I downloaded the Word version (.docm) of the Bible and went to some of the passages I like to use to check a translation. It seems pretty good by my criteria - can't

  • Comments on sync problems

I mentioned in this thread - http://community.logos.com/forums/t/25342.aspx - that I've been having issues syncing for 12+ hours now. I was getting a bit frustrated, as I have some notes that I created on my other laptop that I want to access. So I set about trying to figure out what might be happening. As a longtime Fiddler user (www.fiddler2.com

  • Re: Problems with Synch

I've been having a problem since last night (been about 12 hours now). I get a little yellow warning icon in the upper right, "An error occurred during synchronization.". Is there any way to know for sure that it's on Logos' end? Obviously, I can get to the internet... Thanks, Donnie

  • Re: Question: Floating and Docking Panels and Tabs

Thank you very much - you indeed addressed all my questions, even if you didn't know or have an answer. I'm getting a bit more comfortable with Logos, but it's a very deep product, functionality-wise (of course, it has to be). Donnie

I also looked at the page for the "Parable" topic. It looks like those pages are the result of some kind of topic searches. Not sure what that means or how it helps me use LCV. If I go to the "Semantic
Actually Logos has implemented something called Logos Controlled Vocabulary (LCV) which would be what topical tagging would be based on. Of course tagging might not be the approach Logos takes. I might have another method in mind. The issue is that it will take substantial amounts of time. As another poster suggested, in

  • Re: Question: Selecting all sections in Print/Export

Your point about the copyright holders is fair, though a large percentage of the Logos resources is in the public domain. So copyright-based limits should be on a per-resource basis. Of course, if this is the case (copyright holders asking for concessions / limits), it's the typical corporate myopia, somewhat akin to the issues with the RIAA and digital

  • Re: Question: Floating and Docking Panels and Tabs

I'm an Alt-Tab addict for Windows in general. If you have Windows 7 running the Aero graphics, try "Windows Key-Tab" - very cool. But I didn't want a window with all the tabs floated - just a single tab in a new floating window for extended reading. Interesting that unlike my other question posts, there haven't been any concrete, direct answers to my

  • Re: Topic search for L4 on uservoice: help the dream come true!
Until Logos is willing to spend the effort to properly tag resources, a chief functionality of Logos has been lost in L4. The sooner someone at Logos decides to spend the time to tag resources by topic the sooner this issue will be resolved.
If I were the software designer for this kind of feature at Logos (and

  • Re: Two new resources?

I enabled Automatic Updates and stopped / restarted L4. The auto-synchronization saw the updates and proceeded to pull them down. Looks like maybe I'm supposed to use "sync now" instead of "update now'. Not sure how that distinction squares with Bob P.'s comments to the effect that program and content updates are (or at least can be) tightly coupled

  • Re: Two new resources?

I have the Platinum edition, I don't show those resources as being in my library, and the "update now" command says "No updates available". Any idea why I wouldn't be getting these? Thanks, Donnie

  • Re: Synchronization problems?

I have no idea if it's related, but the forums sure had some hiccups this morning (eastern time, maybe around 11:00 AM). I could get to the internet and the main Logos site, no problem. But the forums were up and down, forced me to reauthenticate, lost a reply to a thread, etc. Donnie

  • Re: Question: Selecting all sections in Print/Export

This certainly seems like a very arbitrary decision, one I speculate is based on starting from a position of mistrusting their customers (like the whole L4 installation fiasco) vs. trusting them. It certainly doesn't stop someone from doing anything they could do if there were not a 100 page limit. It's just a lot harder. Anyway, thanks for the explanation

  • Re: Question: Selecting all sections in Print/Export

Well I used this technique to select all the chapters and sections in "The Divine Covenants". That worked reasonably well, though it was still ***way too slow*** responding after each checkbox was checked (what in the world is it doing???). Unfortunately, when I exported to RTF, the output cut off in the middle of chapter 5 (the top of page 92), leaving

  • Re: Question: How to open a Bible to just start reading?

I knew I could open it via the library. That still seems obscure to me (or at least requiring too many steps). You have to sort, filter, or otherwise narrow the list of resources sufficiently to locate the Bible and then proceed to open it. Donnie
Did you know you can right click on a chapter heading and select to check all sub sections in that chapter?
I didn't know that. While it's not a complete "Select All", it's significantly better than what I was doing. Thanks much! Donnie

  • Question: Selecting all sections in Print/Export

I want to experiment a bit with printing in exporting. The resource I'm working with is A. W. Pink's "The Divine Covenants". When I open the print/export window, it has the "Use these sections:" radio button selected on the left and the checkbox for the section representing the current page checked. What I want to do is check the checkbox next to every

Those are great tips - thank you! I will reiterate my original point that this isn't very discoverable. Now that I know how, it's great - I love using command-based interfaces. Thanks again, Donnie

  • Question: Floating and Docking Panels and Tabs

I've seen questions on this topic, but I haven't seen anything I'd consider definitive on a few issues I encountered last night. I accidentally opened an entire panel (about 6 tabs) in a floating window. What I really wanted to do was just open one tab in a floating window. I'm pretty sure I just picked the wrong item from the right-click context menu

  • Question: How to open a Bible to just start reading?

I fired up Logos 4 last night (latest 4.1 version) and simply wanted to read Ephesians. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to do that. I didn't want to type "Eph" into the search field on the home page or start a passage study or exegetical study - I just wanted to read. I looked through all the menu options, high-level tabs (Home, Library
