• Re: Hebrew Pronunciation Addin

It turns out to be more difficult than we intended. We want it to work with all our Hebrew databases, and they have (sometimes dramatically) different lemmatization systems. It's not as easy as just saying "pronounce the root word" -- you have to define what the root word is. We're sorry that it's taken so long; this was just one of the issues we had

  • Re: Notes Files Suggestion/PLEA

Let me start by saying we ARE improving notes in the next release, and implementing many of the most commonly requested features. I'd also like to better understand what you want to do with notes. Longtime newsgroup readers know that I am very reluctant to turn our notes feature into a full-featured word processor (because it feels like a slipperly

  • Re: Bible reading plan--RESOURCE reading plan

Our plan is to support all versified texts next. (Versified books are more fine-grained and easier to divide up than regular books of prose broken by chapters.) Eventually we want to support reading plans for any content.

It's rare that you can make everyone happy, but after reading this list of ideas for library searching, visual and textual navigation, and collection management, I think I can say that the next version of Logos will -- for this area at least -- make you all very, very happy. :-)

  • Logos startup sound -- keep it, change it, kill it?

Do you like having a startup sound in Logos Bible Software? Is it enough that you can turn it off in preferences, or should we just get rid of it? Or do you like it? In the next version, should we go to the trouble to create a new sound? Can a little audio logo, or bumper music, get you into the mood to start your study, or is it just a distraction

  • Re: Linux version of Logos Bible Software
It'd be nice if Logos set up an Ubuntu machine and tried their own code under Linux to see how terrible it is to deal with rather than just sending us Linux folks that are already loyal PAYING customers off with a mention of codeweavers and a wave buh-bye. Maybe THEY could fix the offending part of their code (hey, they have
It's possible that, as you say, those not willing to pay $200 or so for Bible software "just aren't that interested" (Seriously, the Home package with its few resources isn't a fair measuring stick; it's like a 1-gig iPod).
So your solution is that we put more than the Home package out at an even lower price? (Gulp

I appreciate your enthusiasm, and all the ideas. We've tried several variations on this idea, including our "Starter Library", where you could buy a five-pack of $20 (eventually $10) starter packs to share with friends. (See http://www.bsreview.org/blog/2004/12/a-way-into-logos-bible-software.html ) The problem is -- it doesn't work. Maybe we've missed

  • Re: Linux version of Logos Bible Software

The decision is simply a business one; at this point we don't have any evidence that there's a significant market for a Linux version, which doesn't make the investment worth it. We don't have massive margins, and developing on a new platform costs a pretty large percentage of what developing on the first one costs; I imagine we'd need to see consumer

  • Re: Download v. Cd-rom?

I think downloads are easier to manage and cost less in materials and shipping. Your only risk is that you lose the files and we go out of business. But I'm working hard to prevent that!

  • Re: Why transfer fees?
Thanks for the reply and the change in policy. Will downloads be available for transfer?
Yes. There's no difference to our license system between a download and a disc delivery. The disc may have a serial number, but it's the same license system.

  • Re: Why transfer fees?

I expect the fee will be applied "per transaction" -- if you want to transfer four products in one call, then one fee. If you call four times over four weeks, that's probably going to be four fees.

  • Re: Why transfer fees?

Sorry it's taken so long for me to jump in on this. I've been wrestling the policy dragon. BOTTOM LINE: We're removing the 10% fee and setting the fee at a fixed $20. LONG EXPLANATION, PART 1: No product creator likes the second sale. Car manufacturers would prefer that your car disintegrated in five years to having you re-sell it to someone who might

  • Re: SDK or Module Developement

We've had very little use of the object model, so while we don't have any objection to your building things that use it, we won't have the same model in future releases. If you have something specific in mind, you might want to call and discuss it to make sure it'll be forward compatible. Thanks!

Libronix is very open, and there's documentation for the object model. Check out the articles at: http://www.logos.com/training/articles/advanced The last link on that page is to the downloadable docs for the object model.

  • Re: Rich client vs. web applications for Bible study

"3. They prefer another program -- hard to believe, I know." To the best of our knowledge, we're the best selling product in the category by a wide margin. Our biggest competition is "no software." I don't know if that means online resources only, or just paper books, but there are lots of pastors (and seminary students, apparently) who still aren't

  • Rich client vs. web applications for Bible study

I set up a new laptop for my wife recently. Aside from an alternate web browser, Logos Bible Software was the only thing I installed. Setting up a machine used to involve installing dozens of applications, and for me there still are quite a few. But for my wife, a computer is now just a terminal for the Internet. I have always said that you still need

  • Re: Adopt forum software that allows posting/reading from NNTP

That was our goal, and we thought this software would do it. But we had problems getting it to work (it worked one way, but didn't put posts back, or something like that). Our other constraint was the desire to have a single account at Logos.com, so you didn't have to make a new one in order to participate in the forums; this was one of the few solutions
