• Re: Digitizing your non-Logos/Verbum Books with Personal Books

Hello David, Because the OCR process isn't perfect. If I export to a .docx, I only export the OCR text, errors and all. If I place the text underneath the PDF image, I still have access to my original scan plus the OCR text. ABBYY is maybe 99% accurate, depending on the page. I've tried to go through books and error proof them, but the amount of time

Chris, Thanks for writing this. I'm doing almost the same thing, but with a slightly different process and end result. I bought a heavy duty paper cutter, a Scansnap scanner, Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, and Abbyy Finereader 11 Pro. So I do the cutting and scanning myself. I keep the end result a PDF though, with the OCR text placed under the image. I did this

  • Re: End of Community Pricing?

Personally I've cut back on bidding on CP titles just to save money. That, and I've noticed many end up as filler material in new sets with every number release.

  • Re: Open letter to Bob: Please optimize the license transfer process

Perhaps this is simply one of the costs of going digital over physical. Dealing with licenses rather than true ownership of a physical item introduces a degree of background complexity for the electronic convienance. Maybe it's just something we have to get used to. Or we ask to forego the benefits of Dynamic Pricing.

I came across a person on the Facebook "Logos Resells" page attempting to make a profit off of prepubs released less than 30 days ago. Not directly related to the OP, but he mentioned people usually don't try to profit off of resources. What do y'all think of that?

Does everyone know that you can manage your downloads within the Logos desktop app?
I am thinking of buying a I Pad Pro. How much memory do you recommend? 128/256?
Mel, I just bought one. The 128 GB should be fine for Logos. Its video, music, and media that will take up your space. Will you be putting much of that on your device? Also, consult this website for prices: http://prices.appleinsider.com

  • Re: LGBTQ etc : the New Testament

DAL and Paul, Matthew 6:14-15 pretty much settles the question of faith and works. Let it never be spoken of again. So back to the book, it looks interesting given its scope. Has there been anything else like it? As always, whatever the book may be or claim, we as Christians can benefit from whatever truth is contained in it despite the conclusions

  • Re: Make pre-pubs available for payment plans

They should create a payment plan that works in reverse: it starts when the books goes into production and ends when it's finished. BAM! Payment plan!

  • Re: Books Are Back

After years of giving it a go, I have to agree: Paper books are superior, if only for the experience alone. I love the functionality ebooks bring to the table, but their slightly gnostic-like experience always leave me wanting more. There's nothing like a roomful of books, and having your children explore your bookshelves is no match to them scrolling

Has there been any progress in this area? I'm happy to see Clippings finally make its way onto the platform and will probably migrate my notes to Clippings, but I'm surprised to find that there isn't a way to sort Clippings once they're added aside from dragging and dropping. Logos is at version 6.9. Is this feature non-existent, or am I missing it

  • Re: Challies Goes All "E" in

Scott, I don't think it is. To do it right would be a time commitment I'm not interested in. While there are ways to export the OCR text to Word documents, it would take a long time to clean up the text. Not impossible, just not anything I think worth doing. A searchable PDF serves my needs for the sort of books I'm scanning.

I'm still caught half and half. I love the idea and features of electronic books, but love the physicality of real books. Ebooks are like a long distance relationship with your spouse, while real books are like having her in the same room as you. Same "mind", but totally different experience. One project I've embarked on lately is digitizing my own

  • LibraryIndex Is Smaller Than It Used to Be

I use Time Machine to backup my Mac computer. One folder I don't backup is the LibraryIndex folder in my Logos installation. Its a group of files that was usually very large and updated frequently, so I didn't want it backing up all the time. I looked at the folder today and noticed it was a lot smaller than it used to be. Several GBs smaller. I was
