• Re: Prayer in the Church Fathers - A request for help from Catholic/Orthodox brothers and sisters.
Liam, thank you for asking! Off the top of my head, I'm not quite sure how to direct you on finding what you're looking for, but I'll think about it. From a contemporary Catholic perspective, at least, the age of the ECFs ended with the death of the St. Bede the Venerable in the West (d.735) and in the East with the death of

To those requesting the podcast, it was a couple of passing comments in a recent edition of the Mortification of Spin ( http://www.alliancenet.org/mos/podcast/45227 ). I wouldn't hold your breath. ;-) --- Interestingly, for those wishing to do there own reading, none of the historic [reformed] protestant creeds addresses the question about prayer to

  • Prayer in the Church Fathers - A request for help from Catholic/Orthodox brothers and sisters.

To my dear Orthodox and Catholic brothers and sisters (and any others who want to weigh in!), It generally received wisdom in my particular brand of Protestantism that, as a rule, one should pray to the Father, through the Son, by the Spirit. And that whilst praying to the Son or Spirit is not sinful, it should not be normative or should be particularly
People! Remember the OT was written for our learning ( Romans 15:4 ). Let’s treat it as the Word of God too! Ok, now, BTW, even with dynamic pricing these bundles are quite expensive. I’ll wait until the end, but I’ll probably won’t be buying anything this March “Matching.”
Pretty much

  • Re: Monthly LN Free Book Recommendations

Nice find David, I might add that to my list. I think Logos will make more money out of me with the three free book coupon. Before I would have picked up a four-set over four months. Now I'm more likely to buy the fourth volume out right so that I can complete the set in one go. As someone who doesn't own many of these classic titles, I'm very happy
Now that it's March, and we get 3 classics, I thought it would be good to get this going again! Anyone got any recommendations for what to get?
YES! Sorry for being tardy of late ladies and gentlemen! Let's get started! If anyone were interested, they could get all four volumes of Spurgeon's 'Lectures to my Students

Thanks for sharing, this looks fun. One thing I have to say though - poor old Habakkuk and Ecclesiastes, they never stood a chance :-(

  • Re: Is the CSB your main/top Bible? If so, why do you like it?

In 2017 I used the CSB to read through the Bible in 18 months. I think of it as a nice half-way house between the NIV 2011 and the ESV. In that, it feels more word-for-word than the NIV2011 but less clunky than the ESV. In many ways, I think the CSB occupies a similar space to the NIV1984 which is sadly out of print now. I use the CSB as my personal

  • Re: Uh Oh. KJV Users (only) May Be Missing Something in God's Word

I really enjoyed watching this video and found it very interesting. Mark is clearly an extremely gifted communicator who comes across warm, personable, and with a love for the church. Not being a KJV-only person myself, he was 'preaching to the converted' so it is hard to judge how convincing his arguments would be for those in that camp. Even so, I

  • Re: Early Church Fathers vs Ancient Christian Commentary

[quote user="MJ. I would suggest the five series of Popular Patristics as the place to start for full works on doctrines ... these are chosen to be

  • Re: What happened to the gold?
Yours is the greatest argu for later arrival of the wisemen. The sacrifice presented in the temple was of the poor two doves not the lamb of someone who could afford it with the gifts of the magi. As you say pure speculation. But Luke gives the impression that there was poverty for at least the first few months. -dan [/quote

  • Re: What happened to the gold?

I'm part of the group that think the wise men appeared around the time of Jesus birth. So I would say that in addition to paying for their time in Egypt, the gold would have also paid for the sacrifice required for Mary's purification after the 40 day period was over. As others have said this is all speculation, especially since we do not know what
For Future Reference, temporary resources will initially be shown as permanent (reason unknown), however, after a short period of time, they will change to temporary.
