• Search For God Rejoicing

I'm trying to do a Bible Search for all the verses where God rejoices/celebrates. I started with this search string: But it's returning results where God is not the one doing the rejoicing. I can't remember how to narrow down the search to only those places where God is the subject/actor. Can anyone throw me a line?

  • Re: Looking for a chart on theological views
would you say the top part listing the distinctions between the theological views is an accurate representation?
No - it's a disaster. Too many errors to list. (People listed in the wrong category, labels wrongly applied, labels ambiguous, etc.)

  • Re: Searching by Topic in JBC Journals

I love the JBC. It's one of my most-used resources. I always do a basic search restricted to "Heading Text" and "Large Text." Gets me what I need almost every time: See the highlighted search constraints above.
Was deciding whether to get Peter Enns' Exodus, being aware of his position on the (in)errancy of the Bible. Then decided it's worth 8 bucks to read what he has to say about the supernatural events in the exodus. • Re: Understanding BestCommentaries.com Scores

For the reasons you listed a numerical score is almost useless. This is why annotated commentary surveys are invaluable. They will tell you what the strongest commentaries are and why . They list the strengths and weaknesses of commentaries and allow you to make an informed decision. They even break the discussion into sections with the best technical

I'm weeping bitterly that I had to cancel my pre-pub order. I love this series but it just wasn't in the budget for a church planter. I'm really excited for everybody who did get it. It's the best set of monographs in the last 50 years.
the validity of unpacking theological meaning from small, discrete units of meaning (i.e. words occurring in natural sentences) can be ABSURDLY overstated.
Fixed. These are useful theological dictionaries. However it's a tragedy that they are arranged in a way that makes it look like any single word holds an essay's worth of

Can anyone comment on the usefulness of this series? How is it laid out? What are its strengths? What are its weaknesses? With Vyrso we can't even preview the table of contents.

  • Re: Urgent Information Needed

As a Logos user of about 5 years there are two things that have a dramatic impact on my workflow: a solid state drive (SSD) and more pixels: Having a SSD radically improves indexing and search speed. Having more pixels (dual monitors in my case) allows me to have my sermon open in one pane and Logos panels open alongside. (This will probably be important

  • Re: Is Medical Works of Antiquity worth $60?

If I had to guess... For most Logos customers the biggest value of the Loeb library is using it for word studies on NT words. However, most Logos customers probably don't recognize that. Therefore, most people look at the content matter like you did and say, "Not my cup of tea." Therefore, few people bid. Therefore, if it ever passes 100% it will require

  • Re: IVP New Testament Commentary Sale

You might want to take a quick peak at a good review of these commentaries before pulling the trigger. One or two of these come recommended. The others? Not so much. DA Carson's NT Commentary Survey has saved me tons of money by steering me away from sales on products I don't want (and wouldn't have known I didn't want except for his notes).
Even though they carry the force of an imperative, they are not in this case independent commands. Here they are functioning adverbially, explaining how to stand (manner, means, but associated with the initial imperative). This is significant in exegesis because it tells us we can't separate the participles from their ruling
participial expressions carry imperative force
This is a very frequent occurrence and is very difficult to construct a search for. Here's an example from Eph 6 that I'm preaching in two weeks: stand - Imperative Verb (Eph 6:14) fasten the belt of truth - Participle (Eph 6:14) put on the breastplate of righteousness

A little while back I wrote a post about this on the Logos blog . I find that adding counseling resources to the passage guide helps me stretch my mind in different ways to apply a passage to all of life. Other collections that I've added to my custom passage guide include: Apologetics - helpful for anticipating objections Catechisms - helpful for explaining
