  • Re: Text Comparison Tool Questions (and Collections?) and Suggestions

I wish I could read Greek and Hebrew better. We do look at the RSV or ESV which is a more literal language. SIL, which trains native tongue translators suggest that people refer to a literal translation. So the RSV, TH71 and the RCUV are literal. It's not ideal, I know. 95% of what we do is get ideas from other related langauges. In my wife's language

  • Re: Text Comparison Tool Questions (and Collections?) and Suggestions

I'm always on the lookout for the connectors that make the text flow, that bring thoughts together or to distinguish them. For me, the NLT is very good at showing this, so I try to get ideas from it. I am not as good as most translators I know but God has called me to one particular ethnic group so I have a job to do. I'm no pros pro. Before Logos 4

  • suggestion: with Nelson's permission create a WBC "translation"

Since WBC has each writer do their own translation of the text from Hebrew and Greek, it would be good to have that be accessible as a Bible along with other Bibles I know it would save me tons of clicking. The WB Commentaries are good but difficult to navigate. That "translation" could appear in libraries of people who owned the series. The whole set

  • Re: Please explain how Text Comparison syncs with Bible location

Has anyone here ever had to wait a long time because he or she clicked in a commentary which had a very large range of verses? It happens all the time to me. I know there are workarounds such as to not have the text comparison window not be linked to any link set A-F. The suggestion I have would be to force the text comparison window to only display

Giving myself another 24 hours to think about this, e-Sword reminded me that their text comparison window only shows one verse at a time. If it were a programming choice between the current verson and being constrained to one verse at a time, I would definitely choose one verse at a time. As a translator, I have to compare various versions and this

I use a Mac, but I installed windows in bootcamp (where I am now) and didn't get the results I did with Logos on Mac. So the faith example worked as it did with yours, but it was not syncing as well in the Mac OS. Even in Windows it's not perfect though, sometimes windows change from one section of the Old or New Testament Dictionaries, that is another

  • bug? ivp dictionary sync-scrolling issue

I just got the IVP OT Pentateuch and Historical books to add to the NT dictionaries from the IVP reference bundle. In a workspace I had those previous ones all open to the entry "grace." They were given the link set D for dictionaries and the two new OT ones were added and linked to D. I found if I typed in "faith" the OT Pentateuch window would correctly

This is not a collection comment/suggestion but a general one (btw lots of help so far in this thread thx) In the information panel there is settings which has drop down arrow which reveals "update information" and radio buttons "hover" and "click." One thing I would like to see is some more user-defined settings in text comparison. One might be to

  • Re: SUGGESTION: Some improvements for certain commentaries

I really like the #2 suggestion. The Word Biblical Commentary is frustrating to use for that reason. I use it a lot not just because it has good commentary and notes but each author does their own translation which gives me more ideas and information doing Bible translation. Having those pieces translation - notes - form/structure - comment - explanation

Mark, your video on Logos 5 new features was so helpful. It must have been the 2nd or 3rd time I've watched that but only today did I discover that the information windows was so valuable because it shows other translations for the word one clicks or hovers over - thanks for pointing that out. The NLT has a reverse interlinear. Who did that / who funded

  • Re: Bug wrt chapter notes, affects MSG but sometimes other versions

Hi Dylan, Thanks for the reply. Before I get to the inserted sceenshot, I played around with the NIV84 some. In the OT you can create/insert a chapter note but you can't in the NT. Is that the way it's supposed to be? Regarding the Message, I went to a random first verse and did a search on a word I knew wouldn't appear too many times, so I noticed

  • Bug wrt chapter notes, affects MSG but sometimes other versions

This is from a thread titled: "Linking a note a whole chapter" started in 2011 by someone else but to which I commented in 2014. I have made lots of notes to each Psalm but wanted to give a note for the whole Psalm to remind me when doing Bible translation what some of the best Section heading / Psalm names are from various translations and commentaries

I have an update to the previous post No Logos staff person has addressed this yet : ) here is something in addition to that Adding a note to Exo 21.1 (the reference not the selection) added it to all versions I noticed except MSG - it's as if verse 1 doesn't exist in the MSG. If you highlight a word or phrase within verse 1 in the MSG and create a

This may not be the Mac forum but it does have to do with "default font" I installed OS 10.10 and the with the default font (Skolar) words are missing! from the text. Wierdest thing. Not in my personal notes but in any book text window. If I change to Arial or Times New Roman all the words are there. And all the words were there when I was using Mac

I was hoping to find some way to search based on "last update," since when you upgrade a base package there are just too many to keep track of and too time consuming to tag them individually. Can it be done?

Not saying I don't like the commentary set, I know next to nothing about it, but went to http://bestcommentaries.com/series/reformed-expository-commentary-rec/ and the top ranked volume is Galatians which was #5 in the list. What is the general feeling regarding that website, do you trust their rankings? I do, although I mostly see what the ranking

  • tighten up the use of the word "illustration" in subjects
