The new home page couldn't (easily) have been built in that way. Six-week blocks are great for incremental improvements

  • Off-topic: Online course in Biblical Archaeology starts this week

edX have just started an introductory course on biblical archaeology that lasts for the next 8 weeks. It's free of charge. I've just completed the first 'week', and it looks very worthwhile. It's equivalent to a single semester course of about 2 hours a week, and is a mixture of well-made videos and some reading. Additional reading is also provided

Word can't convert it because it's not a text-based PDF; rather it is a series of images. That's why the file is 24MB in size. Apparently the publishers made a PDF from the press

Even if you did need a new subscription, or wanted one so you didn’t mess up your existing groups, the first month is free — so you wouldn’t pay for a one-off event like this.

Given that few Android devices can update to the later versions, I guess only devices bought since late 2015/early 2016 will be supported. The iOS version requires iOS 11.2, which wasn't released until December 2017. However, that version support

The pre-service loop will automatically adjust the length of the slides if they contain text. If you don’t use text slides, and don’t like the default, I suggest you use templates to create your services. As for web videos, it would be pretty difficult for Proclaim to work out the length of the video, and even if it could it wouldn’t

I find the request for a "secular… point of view" somewhat odd. It seems to me that a secular introduction to a non-secular book is likely to end up missing the point. But the best shortish critical introduction is probably Raymond Brown's (Brown is Catholic, but it's not a Catholic introduction, if that makes sense.)
