I am considering getting one of the new iPads, Do you think it's got enough juice to run two copies of Logos or does one need the Pro to make it fly?

  • Re: Lexham Research Commentaries Question

The LRC is designed to put you to first base quickly. On a given passage, it will tell you what all the references commentaries point to as a main point. You can then take it from there. It's immensely helpful. I consider anything valuable related to Genesis (and the Pentateuch) indispensable. I think I got my copy in a package deal.

  • Re: L8 for Catalina update clearly labelled and made optional to download and install.

This shouldn't make L8 stop working on Mojave or earlier. I think you are worrying about nothing at the moment.

  • Re: Anchor Bible Dictionary

I use it a fair amount of the time. It is very decent. The point made about the fact that it is getting old is something that needs to be addressed and you might not like the stance it takes. I believe you should have at least two such resources. You might also run a search in your library to see if you get any additional evidence or insight. Those

I'm torn between the Gospel of John and Acts, with a very honorable mention for 1 Samuel. I also love Dr. Carson's quote that if we needed political stability, God would have sent a politician.

  • Re: Advice Needed: Collector's Upgrade: Classic Commentaries Bundle for Academic Work?

Quite frankly, I think the overall return on commentary use is much like the lament about the making of books. Some of it still matters. You might want to sift through the listings to see if there are enough peaches. What have you used among the classics so far? Your own use defines your own value return. When I began to acquire Logos classic commentaries

  • Re: Why the Repeated, Sequential Indexing?

I think the dribble downloading is something Logos should look into. I've turned off auto download. I open to a blank screen. This saves gobs of time on any installation. If you open with a layout that has floating panels or searches, you will pay dearly in how fast it settles down to use. I decided to update a machine with an SSD this past week. Apparently

  • Re: Wow, studying the Vulgate in Logos is rubbish
When children learn a language, they don't have any dictionary/lexicon/grammar/textbook. They just figure out the meanings.
There's a truth in this when you read the Bible.enough. You pick up a "Bible sense" to word meanings.

Make sure you have the latest version of Logos installed. 8.8 SR-1 Anything before 8.8 will have some known issues.

  • Re: Is Logos 8 Mac ready for Catalina?

Installed. I believe Catalina runs Logos better probably in part because it's not saddled by any 32 bit architecture. Everything runs better so far.

  • Re: What are your popular layouts?

I started making some small scale layouts. They load real fast and are more than sufficient for some tasks like quick lookups and a parashah layout with Torah readings in several versions and my JPS Haftorah commentary, There's a tendency to think bulldozer with Logos when you really just need some shovels.

I understand that Apple is about to ship Catalina. Just wondering if Logos is ready for it. The last word is that the Betas were capable of it but nothing official was announced.
Irrespective of drive type, set At startup open to (in Program Settings) to "Most recent layout - Local"**, as the layout will load faster and it will be saved on exit. If you first open to a "Blank layout", consider whether your "last" layout needs saving before you exit, else you will open a static layout. . ** if you need

  • For those of us still using hard drives

Starting Logos is painfully slow if you still use a hard drive. Whatever layout seems to take forever to load and settle into place. Don't go there! Open up your program settings and change it to open with a blank layout. The next time you open up Logos it will open up blank. It does this a whole lot faster. Then open your last layout. It will do this

  • Re: Logos 8 mac running very slowly

Just an idea. Quit or force quit. Then restart. Sometimes all the resources don't fully load up and Logos churns. Once everything is loaded, Logos runs much better. It's the loading that bogs it down and then it acts kinda stupid, but once everything is in place, it's golden. Logos seems to remember where it's been when you restart and then it finishes
