  • Re: XP Recovery Part II new questions

Accordding to the comp's mfr it's a 1333. The ram might be a long shot, if I can find some cheap enough I might give it a go. The same has been done on Mac Minis that get 3GB from 4GB cards.I probably could do a processor upgrade too, but I'm not sure I'm skillful enough to pull that one off. It would be simpler to buy a barebones kit and move on.

  • Re: Commentaries

Be sure to prioritize all of the resources you use like dictionaries, lexicons, and such. I add many of them to my shortcuts too so I can open them whenever I am looking at a scripture text and need to quickly answer a question that comes to mind.

  • Adding a shortcut for a commentary set

I wanted to add a shortcut to the bar for Expositor's Bible Commentary Set. Is there a way to do that? Normally, it would just put one volume up.

If I have a passage open and click the Bible Knowledge Commentary shortcut, it opens to the appropriate commentary selection. I want to do the same with EBC. I suppose the same would be for someone with another set.

After thinking about this, it would probably do as well to open BKC or JFB by shortcut and use the open parallel resource pulldown to get to whatever commentary I want. It's the second step I wanted to avoid. Logos is starting to make me spoiled....

  • Re: Endless Reboot in XP Now What???

I tried safe mode a couple of times last night but that didn't quite work--way too fuzzy brained at the late hour; I'll try again this morning. I was running it direct in the process. If I can get into the machine there's hope, otherwise I might end up with a paperweight.

  • Re: Endless Reboot in XP Now What???

Safe Mode isn't working at all. It displays a bunch of "multi(0)...... some system file names" and then goes back into reboot. Without a working DVD drive, I don't think I can get it up. And because it doesn't have an option for a generic DVD drive, I'm not sure how to get it running. My only thought is if I had something on a USB flash drive, it might

  • Re: Not so happy w/Logos 4

The downloading and indexing is a rite of passage. My suggestion to the OP is that once any downloading is complete, use your browser and head over to Biblia.com and enjoy your library until Logos is done with the housekeeping. It's not everything that Logos can do, but you've got plenty to work with in the meantime. The great thing about Logos is that

  • Speed up your start up (how did I ever miss this one)

Everyone seems to gripe about how long an application takes to start up and Logos has been targeted for this since the Alpha days. Well I discovered to my embarrassment that it's my own default Logos started slooow. In your Dock preferences, uncheck Animate opening applications . That's it. Seems to shave quite a bit off the start time. Enjoy!

It's really not surprising that making the OS do an animation of the dock would use up some resources. The same has been true of the Windows animations in Vista and 7. I just never thought it would do so much on the startup time for Logos by turning it off, but I am seeing some definite improvement. Try it for yourself.

  • Re: Speed up your start up (how did I ever miss this one)

I'm running this from a 2GB MacMini that's 2 years old so my results are probably more dramatic. Startup time needs to be tested with the machine rebooted since all apps will startup faster if they are simply restarted because they are loaded into memory.

Thanks guys. I think this has some potential to try it once I have a second monitor. RDC still does the main job for me.

  • Re: Pdf to logos supported format to be read in the software

I recently put Libre Office on my PC instead of reinstalling Office. I've yet to check how well it does Hebrew. It might replace Office on my Mac if it proves completely viable although I think I will stay with Mellel

  • Re: How to increase the startup time of Logos 4

I'd be curious to know the relative merits of different defragmentation tools. I'm using Defraggler which seems to do a good job.

  • Softwareupdatechecker Process

I was looking in my Activity Monitor during today's update and there was a Softwareupdatechecker listed in the Process. Is this a Logos program? I don't recall seeing it before and it was taking a chunk of memory. I know this isn't the same as Apple's Software Update because it has a specific icon. And Logos usually has their own icon too.

  • SSDs are becoming more viable

This story indicates not only a very considerable improvement in performance, but lower prices as well: http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetreviews/intel-intros-third-generation-solid-state-drive-320-series/23193 I wouldn't be surprised if SSDs become standard fare.

Matthew: You are saying it copies and writes Hebrew correctly RTL? My understanding was that it is not supported. I know it doesn't work in my older Word 2004 when I tried it once pasting from Accordance.

Looks like we're getting another update soon. Not sure what it may or may not do for L4M, but it will certainly put gobble a hole in our schedules when it arrives. Just sose you know. http://www.tuaw.com/2010/11/02/os-x-10-6-5-release-expected-this-week/

  • Word Processing and Logos 4 Mac with Original Languages

Since even the latest version of Microsoft Word on the Mac isn't multilingual friendly for Hebrew, what's the strategy for L4M? I have Mellel, but I was wondering if Logos 4 Mac is designed to work best with a given word processor. Anyone using OpenOffice/Libre?
