  • Re: The New MacBook Air

I had to meet up with a friend over at the local mall on Monday, so I got there early to take a look at the MacBook Air in the Apple Store. It's rather nice and easy to type on, the screen resolution is outstanding, and I must say I was very impressed with it. I still think it would be a bear to work with for an extended time for L4M because I am spoiled

  • Re: Suggestions on speed complaints

QA at beta is the precise problem. QA people need to be an integral part of the design and development team process--something that didn't become clear until maybe the last decade or so. It drives down development time and reduces support costs. Bugs are still inevitable (I "broke" one of my company's major released programs in less than an hour on

  • Re: The New MacBook Air

I'm running Snow Leopard with 2GB. I consider that marginal for L4M--I shut off other apps whenever possible. Perhaps the flash drive will make the difference. I find it astonishing that Mac would sell a machine anymore with less than 4GB. That's really baseline.

My serious Windows XP install has free anti-virus software. Kernel panics are on Macs IIRC. At this stage of the game, Win and Mac are fairly even. I use Windows for some misc software and run it via Remote Desktop, so it's mainly just an app on my Mac. It got me into Logos, so why complain?

I've got eyes so much larger than my wallet. I'm praying I can somehow justify some goodies between this and March Madness. I did one commentary from March Madness. Back on my knees for now.

  • Useful Clipboard App

I just came across a very handy clipboard utility that not only stores whatever you save in the clipboard but it also has one endearing feature: the ability to convert to plain text what you've copied. It's called CopyPaster and it's a hefty $ .99 on the App Store right now. Here's a screen shot

Hello Walter: You simply need to go to Exodus 12 and pull up some commentaries. There's more than a couple of commentaries that discuss the variety of opinions on the numbers that are commonly given. The NAC commentary by Douglas Stuart has an excursus on the subject.

I see nothing on the release notes and there doesn't appear to be a PC version update in tandem. Mine just updated as well. I'm guessing it's fixes but any improvement is always welcome.

  • Re: Indexer CRASH after most recent resource update

OK gang here's my latest strategy. I went back to the last update in Time Machine before the Friday oops one. Dragged that folder from the library to my Desktop. Yanked the one out of my current library folder and deleted it and replaced it with the older one. Turned off the automatic update and restarted it. I'm reindexing it now since I don't keep

I elected to replace my Logos 4 folder with a Time Machine backup from the last good update/turn off auto update and just run a reindex since I don't back up the index files. That's going on now. I tried everything including a scan resources and HCSB wasn't showing up. Very strange. I hope they get this sorted out early next week.

I find TM to be a resource hog on my Mac Mini which just barely meets spec. Especially if Logos is indexing or I want more windows open. I set TM to run every three hours so I can get more work done.

The latest stable release seems to be fine on both Mac and PC. So much depends on one's setup such as what you have coming up on startup that it's difficult to determine what you are perceiving as slow.

Given the recent improvements in SSDs from Intel also I think we are probably going to see more SSD use which will certainly benefit Logos users. You really should consider one in your next computer.

  • Re: A Little Frustrated with Pre-Pub prices more expensive than reg. pricing on WBC-maybe others?

If you really want to get frustrated at a book price, buy the latest top computer book for $50 and find it in the thrift shop for a $1.00 or less within a couple of years. Taking WBC at face value, a print set is probably worth $800. But these numbers are meaningless. One of the volumes represents about 13 years of one scholar's labors. How much is

I just came across a free note taking program like OneNote, but it's for the Mac. It's called Growly Notes. Installed it today. Haven't had a chance to do much with it yet, but it's promising.
