Faithlife epub books are based on supplied files with automatic tagging and little else done. If this were the final product I'd be upset, too, but it isn't. FL is making a good faith effort to get former WS users back to having their books ASAP. You've read the discussions. I'd rather FL NOT spend time prettying up versions

I NEVER would have suspected the notes could be affected by having columns set to none--just no logical connection there in my mind.
I think the reason for this is that with columns set to none, the text is scrolling down the page so nowhere sensible for footnotes to go. JT... thanks for pointing out the columns setting and Graham... thanks for being pedantic. I hadn't called for help yet, but had been trying to figure out why I had lost the ability to see notes on the page. Well... somewhere along the line I had changed my columns setting to "none". I had gone through all my panel and resource settings and just couldn

Have I misunderstood the question?
Yes I think so. Imagine that you want to Study John 1:1-6 , you put this on the screen so you can easily view the whole passage in one go. This is important because as you are studying individual verses you want to be able to view the whole too. Now as
Thanks Floyd Johnson for your suggestion.... so I called a 2nd time to Logos Sales and asked about the "features only" and again was told the "Bible Browser" is in the Silver Package which going the "features only" route will cost me $188.00. And guote me "there is no way one can buy a feature without buying some kind of package

Using the 2nd link in Floyd's post, I scrolled to near the bottom of the web page where it shows four different features packages. From what I can see, the Bible Browser feature is available starting in the Bronze features package. Selecting that should show you what your dynamic upgrade price would be for that package.
I did watch the videos of LA171 through the church subscription. I think the answer to your first question depends a lot on how much general knowledge one has already accumulated from general introductory videos and from other ressources.
