  • Searching in Qumran Sectarian Manuscripts

Is it possible to search in the Qumran Sectarian Manuscripts? I have not been able to do it, but they are morphologically tagged.

Jeff, if you have not already done so, you should look at Troy Martin's work on Colossians. It was a monograph in the supplement series to JSNT if memory serves. He has a considerably different take from most people on Colossians 2:16-17. He also regards the "heresy" being addressed in Colossians as related to the Cynics rather than some form of incipient

  • Re: Leiden Peshitta. Is it really?

Why has the Leiden Peshitta suddenly been postponed? I have been waiting months for this, it said on the site that it would come out on October 27, and now it has been postponed indefinitely. I really need this for text-critical work on a project due soon. When is it likely to be available? Tim.

  • Re: Classic Commentaries and Studies on Genesis (22 Vols.)

Yes, I think we can get it down to 30. I wouldn't want George to miss out on Gunkel's Genesis--one of the historically most important commentaries ever. Also, the notes by S.R. Driver are bound to have some gems; Skinner's work on the Divine Names is likely to be a great resource for understanding the development of source criticism; and Dillman's two

  • Re: Theology

George, I think your comments "To say that God exists is actually contradictory if one understands God in the Christian sense" and "To say that God exists is therefore to say that God is a part of creation" need some important qualification, perhaps by adding the phrase "in the same way that we exist" in each case. God is certainly not "a being among

  • Some dicitonaries without page numbers

The Dictionary of New Testament Background does not have an option to display page numbers, but the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary and the Dictionary of Paul and his letters do. Why is this or am I missing something?

It would increase the value of this excellent resource immeasurably! Please do it, Logos, even if a few works at a time.

  • Re: Quetion about the Free Perseus Books?

To add to what George hinted at, many of these books are worth devoting time to reading even if they don't provide any background to the Bible. Paul evidently thought it was worthwhile to read some of the Stoic poets, as he quoted them. I am sure that he, and some others of the New Testament authors, had read several of the works in this collection

  • What happened to the Jeremiah collection?

I have been waiting for my Jeremiah collection to arrive. It didn't get postponed in the list of prepublication items and I have a notice in my logos accounts that it ships July 29 (two days ago), but I have not received anything. Has anybody else had the same experience? Did I miss a notice?

I'll let others speak for the NT volumes, but in the OT commentaries there are several highly acclaimed authors: S.R. Driver (of Brown-Driver-Briggs fame, and one of the foremost OT textual critics), J. Skinner (wrote commentaries in the ICC series, and another great scholar) and A. B. Davidson (wrote an excellent OT theology). T. K. Cheyne is also

  • Re: Carta!

I too would definitely buy this. I have it in hardback, but if it was in Logos, I could use it in my classes. It is such a great classroom tool. Send the pictures to powerpoint, and excerpt important parts of the text for your notes accompanying the powerpoint slides.

  • Re: Modern atlas?

I would love Logos to offer The Sacred Bridge: Carta's Atlas of the Biblical World by Anson Rainey and R. Steven Notley. It is absolutely superb. There is also an abridged version, which basically omits the original source material in Hebrew, Greek and other languages, for about half the price. Anson Rainey is a great exponent of Historical Geography

There are still 24 volumes planned but how long they will take to come out, nobody knows. My doctoral advisor was Marvin Sweeney who is now the editor of the series together with Rolf Knierim (his doctoral advisor) who started the whole project. Frequently, the person who was originally assigned a volume has done little or no work on it. Some of these
