  • Re: Logos 4 And Hard Drive Speed

Battery life => Sony laptop HDD=> SSD. If this machine primarily is for Logos, its your best upgrade. Something with a 200+ read speed. Dont order a machine with this- manufactureres WAY overcharge for SDD. I order with the smallest and cheapest drive. Then get the SSD from ebay/online stores much cheaper, and then clone the factory drive to the SSD

  • Re: Purchasing New Computer: Suggestions?

Hi Ill add my 2 cents and ask some more also. 1) RAID is not "backup"- RAID0 is for speed- usually the other scenarios are for maintaining uptime in event of a drive failure- but it is not "backup"- a virus (or child ;) can wipe the data off of all the drives in a RAID1,5,6,10,0+1, etc just as easy as if you had a single drive. Writing to a RAID5 can

Thanks dave- good info. Im still deciding what to build though. so as far as Libronix: 1) its not necessary for the cache fileto be on a speedy drive? 2) Xeons or single core i7? 3) core i7 will allw DDR3 which can get really high in speed. Any advantage for Libronix? (I know that the bread & butter is the drive subsysem speed) thanks :)

I am building for Libronix AND Photoshop. I ot the i7-920 for $199 which is STILL a steal, and the 6GB of DDR3 1600MHZ. I have 4 Intel X25-M 80GB in RAID 0. Prior, my laptop with its 5400 RPM drive had my 16GB resouce directory (laptop with 2GHz/2M cache and 2GBDDR2). A Passage Guide search took 32 seconds on the laptop. On the desktop, its 8 seconds

also, since Libronix isnt 64-bit- it doesnt even make use of RAM beyond 3.5gb anyway, does it?

  • Re: Storage speed effect on searches

I installed the program (ver 3) into the Ramdisk. That cut the Passage search to 4.5 seconds from 5.9! (again, on a 5GB resource directory without baggage files.) However, when I did an exegetical search, it got an error that t couldnt find a file. This is under Win7, so ill have to figure out how to get it to let me into the the Documents and Settings

"mess with"? you mean relocating? Its part of the program to put resources wherever you want and tell Logos where they are. I was referring to one file that is apparanetly missing when you dont install the program to the C drive- which is something that Logos must support becasue it allows you to change that while installing. So I am referring to go

  • Storage speed effect on searches

There is a falloff! I have a 5GB library (not including the 11GB of baggage files.) Example- on my laptop with its 25MB/sec hard drive searching "jn 3 16" takes 32 seconds to complete. On my desktop build project with the Core i7-920 and 12GB ram: On an SSD array that has 584MB/sec read rate, the same search takes 8.4 seconds. However, making a 5.5GB

I treid the ramdisk again now that the ram is at 1600MHZ (it was ta 1066MHZ before). The read rate is now over 6200MB/sec, and our search time for jn 3 16 in a 5GB library (no baggage files) with the PC set at 3.6GHZ RAM 1600MHZ 7-7-7-21 6.5GB free, 5.5GB in RAMDISK is: 5.9 seconds

but Dave H. stated in another thread: "More a cache than an index - stored in \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Libronix DLS\Library\Cache\Metadata (XP) or \ProgramData\Libronix DLS\Library\Cache\Metadata (Vista/Win7). Created during Resource Discovery it is used more for Reports (Library, Bibliography) than searching." So, intsalling

so its the cache thats installed in the Program Files\Libronix subdirectory then, yes? See my timings where installing V3 to the Ramdisk shaved 1.5 sc of the search. Maybe not much- but if you see what ive been doing, is seeing what effect each aspect had. When I get back up and running, I want to see what happens when the program is installed to ramdisk

my system is disassembled as I am reconfiguring. Dave, youre correct. I meant the Users directory- not Documents and Settings. The ram was buggy at 12gb- Corsair's online configurator says this 6GB kit will work with my motherboard-but tech support says you cant use 2 kits at that speed. The configurator knew my motherboard supports 24GB, but it doesnt

  • New laptop. Speed

I picked up a 2012 Sony Vaio at a closing outlet center for 40% off. Model SVS13A2APXS Core i7-3520, 12GB Ram. 500GB drive. 10 hr battery with shelf battery I have. Its a 13", but nice screen...nice for sitting on the couch or travelling. The remarkable thing (I think) is its drive speed. What do you think of this (for a 13" laptop, not a super desktop

  • Re: Logos needs to take advantage of the new iPad Pro

So, if Apple has all the money, why don't they make a MAC OS for the iPad Pro instead of waiting for companies like Adobe to come forward like they are doing with full-version IOS Photoshop? Because they rely on hardware sales...they don't sell MAC OS like Microsoft sells copies of Windows for revenue..and their Macbook sales could tank. It is Apple

Same here! New 2 in 1 with Windows 10. I excitedly loaded my purchased, tolerable, Ivona voice. It works in Windows 10 narrator perfectly. Logos 7 chooses to stick with default Windows voice no matter what- no matter restarts, computer restart. Please- I need this to work. I wanted the 2 in 1 so I'd be portable- I can sit anywhere and study, listen

    >>>"The hard drive has the largest impact on Logos performance.." So true. The Surface is using board-mounted chip SSD that IS Samsung- but not the speed of the current outrageously fast NVME M2 960/961 series (with ~3000 MB/s read speeds, and read IOPS in the 400,000 range!) Even the HP x360 newest version with 8th generation i7, is only using

Hi Sorry to troll and revive- but starting a new thread is superfluous. I'm currently hunting for new hardware with a better usage experience. Since the hardware is there in the iPad Pro, its not impossible for a more desktop-like functionality. If Logos cant task a section of programmers to do this---how about crowdfunding? That is--if Logos would

thats true- Microcenter has been selling i7 920 for $199 for months (in the store only I bleieve) to get people in to build a system. when I was in there, they actually had 6GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 that they were CLEARING at $150 because noone was buying it at its usual expensive price!
