Logos, this is a great idea that could be very useful, and adds even more value for those who put the $ into L4. Keep up the good work.

Rosie, thank you very much for your reply and suggestions. I guess I wasn't considering TLOT to be in the same category as standard lexicons. I do have Sailhamer's new The Meaning of the Pentateuch , as well as Alexander's From Paradise to the Promised Land , the NAC volumes, Keil&Delitzsch, WBC on Leviticus, and some others. I'm still a little curious

  • recommended resources for OT word study esp. preaching on Pentateuch

I am preaching through the Pentateuch, and have finished up through the Ten Commandments. As I move into the details of the Mosaic Covenant, I'm looking for a couple resources to beef up my library. I have Scholars Gold plus IVP Reference collection, some journals, and all of the lexicons and grammars I need. But I'm a bit frustrated in finding the
a third-rate dictionary
Mark, I think you are exactly right. Steven is talking about "overload," and one of the key ways to deal with overload is to recognize that just because it came in Logos doesn't mean it's a good resource!! One person's treasure may be another's trash, but we all will have plenty of 'trash' in

  • question: L4 icon on Windows 7 taskbar

I'm wondering why, on the Windows 7 taskbar, some icons duplicate a new icon when the program is opened, while other icons simply highlight the existing taskbar icon. In the example below, you can see both Excel and Logos 4 on my taskbar, with neither program opened. Then I open both programs: L4 has a duplicated & highlighted icon, while Excel highlighted

Steven, I"m not really a power L4 user, but I am a very busy pastor and L4 is my primary study tool each week for expositional preaching. I have a couple of basic thougts on your questions: Ruthlessly customize a guide that will be your primary platform for interacting with the text. By 'ruthlessly,' I mean that you have to be honest about which of
Does this Power Lookup feature works over my own "Handout"?
Jorge, I don't think this works because Power Lookup only works together with certain parts of the Logos resources / tools. I don't have a full list of exactly what it works with, but I'm quite sure handouts isn't one of the things.
I am just new to Logos and learning. I saw how in Gold V3 you could select a group of bible references, such as in the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, and then click somewhere else to create an immediate verse list from these text references. How can I do this using my upgrade Logos 4 Platinum? This isn't exactly a tip that reveals any fantastic L4 secrets, but I love using Power Lookup with a cross-reference resource. What a great way to benefit from the hard work that goes into something like New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge . I included a screen shot below that shows a basic setup that I use: my custom guide (well illustrated earlier

Thank you L4 team, especially those whose work is completely behind the scenes and seems tedious and thankless at times. L4 is my constant companion as I prepare to preach and teach, and so your hard work is paying off for this church family in Southern California each week for God's glory.
You want to be able to type " John 3:16 ; Eph 2:8-9 " and have all three verses copied at once?
I guess that would be nice, but what I really need is to be able to copy the text of all of the verses in a list of results from a "Bible" search like this:

Ebbe, I don't understand - if I do a lemma search on hamartano , I get results in 37 NT verses: how do I select that entire list to get it into the copy verses dialogue? It seems like I can only get one verse at a time into it.

I just posted on my blog about this - http://lahope.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/110-in-bibleworks/ showing how and why I switch to Bibleworks to do most of this basic copy and paste. Wish I could just stay in L4 and do it.

Mark, though I earlier tried to show that L4 can give similar results, I do ultimately agree with you that L3 topic searching needs to return. This was one of my first frustrations at the beginning of the beta process, and a big hindrance to a new user. Am I recalling correctly that this will be built into the "go" box on the L4 homepage - it just isn

I am not trying to be argumentative at all (just a user like you!), but isn't the L3 topic search for "centurion" (below) only slightly different than my L4 search for it? What do you mean when you say L4 is "not anything like" L3?

Francis, I'm not sure exactly what collection you have, but if I click the search button in L4, and then search my library for the word "centurion" (the kind of term I would expect we would do a topic search for), I get three Bible dictionary / Encyclopedia entries at the top in the "topic" section. Then the library results below are pretty helpful

I know this is just anecdotal, but I have a new core i7 system that cost about $800. It has the low-end i7 (920), 6GB DDR3, a standard 7200rpm hard drive, an average video card, etc. I'm sure the i7s will come down in price soon, so that price point will probably change, but for now it was a fairly good deal, and Logos (and everything else) certainly
Two ways to speed up massive searches: 1. If you have a 64bit OS you can add up to 32G Ram, much more cheaply than you might think. 2. Rather than teensy SSD's, consider creating a huge, superfast hard drive array using RAID5 Long story here re RAID - will not go thru it unless someone asks. Nutshell: raid5 gives asyougo auto-backup
