Neither Longman or Carson are dispensational so this does influence their reviews but in general they are pretty fair. Both are coming from a much more academic perspective so many of their favorites may not always be the most useful for pastors with a busy schedule. Personally, I really recommend John Evans "A Guide to Biblical Commentaries and Reference

Actually Tremper Longman did not contribute a commentary for the NAC. The Commentary that he wrote for Daniel is in the NIVAC series. In my opinion the 3 best lay-level books on 1 Peter would be: Wayne Grudem’s “1 Peter” (Tyndale New Testament Commentary) Edmund Clowney’s “Message of First Peter” (Bible Speaks Today Series) I. Howard Marshall “1 Peter” (IVP New Testament Commentary) I also always look at Warren Wiersbe’s Bible

I am trying to decide between 2 New Testament Theologies. Thielman's "Theology of the New Testament" or I.H. Marshall's "New Testament Theology."
