Like you, I have a quad core (8 threads) laptop, and I am amazed at the under-utilization of my system by Logos. I normally see Logos only using around 100% out of 800% of the cpu's during indexing. I believe that I did see it hit 200% onetime while doing a Bible Word study.
It is true though that you cannot rely on it to search the Hebrew, Aramaic and sometimes also the Greek resources.
Can someone explain exactly what this means and why the comment was made? What problems does Logos have with searching? Thanks!

After you have sometime going through the materials, I would appreciate to read your opinion on the value of Camp Logos in comparison to the training manuals. I have the manuals plus the Learning Greek and Hebrew DVDs so I think that Camp Logos wouldn't benefit me that much.

Mike, I'm confused by your statement. I just purchased the Learn to use Greek and Hebrew DVDs and read somewhere that the BDAG and CHALOT were strongly suggested for this series. Are you saying the series discourages the use of these resources? I have the Silver package and purchased BDAG for use with the DVDs. Should I get a refund? Thanks!

When is the last chance to purchase an item at the prepub price? I'm looking at the Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmud Collection for $159. Thanks!

Thanks Brian! This would seem to indicate that the SSD makes no difference with startup time which seems odd. What do you think about the general performance of L4 on your machine?
-
It takes 12 seconds to launch with a simple layout. I have the Vertex 3 with 500MB/s reads so this is disappointing to me. There seems to be a slight delay and lag with most things but nothing extreme. I'm sure compared to most other computers my MBP runs L4 with great speed but L4 is definitely the slowest program on my machine. The dedicated graphics

Been playing around in Logos 4 and have noticed that when the information panel is updating, L4 is still only using 106% out of 800%. Takes the program 12 seconds to launch which is ridiculously slow as I have a Vertex 3 SSD which has 500MB/s read speeds. I have had several crashes as well at startup. Starting to wonder if I made a mistake with this

Thanks KS4J, I didin't realize this was such an old thread. What about the pronunciation of english words?

Any update on this?

Downloaded L4 and just finished indexing. One thing that confuses me is that I was told that L4 will use all 4 cores but according to my Activity monitor it is not. Am I missing something? Thanks!

I think the key to the 13" vs 15" decision is the screen size. I believe most L4 users will tell you that working with L4 on a hires 15" screen is not fun but tolerable, but working on a lowres 13" screen is downright purgatory.

I decided to go with the 15", 2.2 Quad, 8GB, 120GB SSD. Will be downloading Logos 4 tomorrow. Thanks for all your help!

I appreciate the replies. Andrew thinks the extra money for the 15" is worth it. I would be interested in other opinions. Thanks!

Michael, Logos 4 will only benefit from the dedicated graphics card if it automatically kicks in which I'm not sure it does. Also, I always thought graphics cards helped in the video/3D areas. Logos 4 isn't doing any of that is it? Kurt, How often does indexing/reindexing occur? Thanks!

I'm looking to buy a new MBP and need advice concerning the 15" versus the 13". I have three questions. 1) Does Logos 4 automatically invoke the dedicated GPU or does it use the integrated? 2) Will Logos 4 use 4 cores (8 pipes) or just 2 cores? 3) How often does Logos 4 tax the processor? Is it just during indexing? Thanks for your help!
-
Thanks for the replies. So my take is the 15" MBP dedicated graphics card offers no real performance gains over the integrated graphics and the performance gains offered by the quad core versus dual core are mostly realized during indexing which happens primarily once after installation of Logos 4. If anyone disagrees with this assessment, please chime
