• Re: Logos Search by Hebrew Numerical Value instead of Words and Phrases
Honestly, I'm a engineer with a strong mathematical background and I don't think that I'm dealing with very artificial constructs, quite the contrary, the evidence is so strong that it led me to choose Hebrew as an option discipline. Prof. Haim Shore made his book available for free on his blog (link below) and I would like to do
Walton has a great grasp on the language and context throughout the ancient Near East, so he is able to shed light on issues which you might not have thought of before. That doesn't mean that I always agree with him, but he makes you think.
That's what I've found as well.

  • Re: Non-contraction Gen 1:1
I have gone through a lot of Hebrew and grammars (5 years of graduate semitics.) I'm not familiar with the term "contractions" as it applies to Hebrew, and there is not, in my view, a Hebrew equivalent of "isn't." I looked at one of the sites (I don't put any stock at all in gematria myself), but is this referring to plene and defective
As to the actual words, terms, etc. (eg. Lemma, root, etc.) I'd suggest that you check out the Bible Greek Study videos by Bill Mounce . Once you've done those, you might want to, pick up his Basics of Biblical Greek set and begin working through it (other introductions are available).
I would second everything Liam

  • Re: How will the new notes system affect highlights?
In the current beta of the new notes system (this is in 7.18 SR1) notes and highlights are recognised as different types
This seems like a much better way of doing things. It was never intuitively obvious to me why a highlight would be treated as a note. From the user's point of view, they are very different animals

I've read the Genesis One and the Flood books, and enjoyed both. I don't know that I agree with everything in them, but they are well researched and thoughtful - I found both helpful.
I went to head and order the extra large Jewish bundle along with some messianic Jewish resources. I’m going to have to start learning a little bit of Hebrew first before I order the Dead Sea Scrolls study edition and the biblical one that Denise mention 👍😁👌 So here is my question which of these two resources do you recommend
The answer is fairly clear: do you want to do a morphological search or a syntactic search? I want Logos tagging to be as "by the book" as possible rather than their hiding all the interesting quirks from me. Case in point are individual people where the evidence in the text is ambiguous regarding gender but Logos blythfully

  • Re: What is the best Christian resource on dinosaurs?

One of the underlying challenges here is that very few people are truly knowledgeable about both the science and biblical studies relevant to these discussions. I'm certainly not. But my experience is, based on what little I do know of both fields, that when scientists try to interpret the Bible they generally come off looking quite foolish - and when

I would second Blomberg's Interpreting the Parables . It isn't primarily focused on source criticism, but I found it immensely helpful in providing an interpretive framework for thinking about the parables.

  • Re: וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים

You may wan to look at a discussion of Hebrew "weak" verbs. When one of the root consonants of a verb is a guttural,. it affects the way the verb is conjugated. In this case, the final He drops off. This can be massively confusing when you're looking up words in a lexicon, until you get used to it. (Probably a bit like a non-native English speaker trying
