• Re: Indexing taking a long time...
Cameron, I thought the mac alpha had incremental indexing implemented? Is it no longer working?
Incremental indexing refers to the ability to incrementally add index data for new resources to an existing index. If you shutdown your computer or cancel indexing or quit the indexer by some other means prior to the completion

  • Re: New to MAC and Logos

If you installed from a DVD, and you've gotten past the "Preparing Your Library" screen, you should be able to click the icon that looks like a book to display a list of your resources. If you're installing from a download, the first time you run the app, it should begin (within a couple minutes) downloading all of your resources (though, it should
What does the indexing process look like (separate window, etc.?) and how do you tell how far along the indexing progress is? I saw something on the Indexing FAQ that indicated how to tell in Windows, but not for a Mac. I can look in my Activity Monitor and see that Logos4Indexer is running (in fact it's taking up 150% of

Thanks again.
If indexing is never allowed to complete fully at least once, it will restart, from scratch, every time until it is able

  • Re: A6 ? taking a little longer than the previous ones must be a good sign ?
Does anyone know how long it takes to "Preparing Library" and is this the same as or different than the indexing issue which has been addressed in previous forums?
The time it takes to prepare your library is proportional to the number of resources you have (more resources = more time to prepare). Your library is first
Yes I'm using Alpha Pre-Release 5. Thank you for your answer.
In the About dialog, there's a number like 4.0.3.3537 in parentheses after the label "Pre-Release Alpha 5". What is that? Also, what does the indexer status tooltip say when you hover over the indexer icon in the menu bar? And finally, it would be great
I honestly pray that Logos made the program built for a Core 2 Duo processor. It would be crazy to knock out performance for 80 - 90 % of the Mac users! Joe: I was specifically hoping to see Rick's logs (the disappear/reappear experience) as well. I should've been more clear about which logs I was hoping to see ;). Jack: Thanks for posting your logs. I suspect that while the issues are near one another, they may not be identical (beachball vs. appear/reappear issue). I should've been more specific.

  • Re: Like a bad penny...

In situations like this, it's often helpful to post a log (in this case, Logos4.log) so we can see what is happening under the hood. It's possible that this is a sync issue (or related) and hopefully the logs will give us some insight.

It certainly doesn't hurt. As a company with a rich history on the Windows platform, it's probably fair that long-time Mac users would want ensure that the Mac version is as Mac-like as possible. As such, suggestions like this are totally appropriate. For what it's worth, much of the team working on the Mac version, myself included, are long-time Mac

  • Re: Nothing happening with my installation

The preparing your library screen might be displayed for quite a while, especially after initial installation. It's examining all of your resources and cataloging them to prepare for the indexing process (we'll often call this process "discovery"). Upwards of an hour seems a bit long, but not necessarily out of the question, depending on the number

  • Re: A Quick Indexing Question

I realize this reply comes a bit late to the thread, but Alpha 5 Update (released the evening of Nov 25th) substantially improved indexing performance. On CoreDuo 2 Ghz w/ 2 GB of RAM (among the oldest, slowest supported machines), it finished indexing Platinum in fewer than 15 hours. On newer machines (e.g. Mac Pro w/ 8 GB of RAM) it'll finish in fewer

While the indexer is running, there is a small icon in the menu bar (upper-right) that looks just like the app icon. Hovering over it will show an estimate of time remaining.

For some context on the speed improvements in indexing, I just finished indexing a fresh Platinum install, from scratch, crash-free, in just under 15 hours on a first generation MacBook (Core Duo 2.0 GHz w/ 2GB RAM; one of the oldest machines supported by Logos 4 Mac). Newer and faster machines, especially those with more RAM, should finish more quickly

Also, given the fact that there is some confusion about the search boxes, my advice to "run a basic search" may not be very helpful. Some background: 1) The textbox at the top of the main window (right of the three large icons) is the "Command Bar", which can be used to initiate a search, but can do a whole lot more, too (including "Facilitate Serendipitous
Question about the blue icon in the menu bar that I mentioned earlier-- does it go away if all indexing and downloading is done? It's no longer there, but flashes briefly when I start up Logos 4/Mac. Could it be that it's actually finished?? I've seen it all week, so it's hard to know if there's something wrong or if it's
