Jack, thank you for your comments. I think I may try one out and see how it goes. i would tend towards a more conservative line but welcome the opportunity to read all kinds of material.

  • Re: Why Journals

Although I don't do academic study I find having journals available helps me to read more broadly on subjects that I might be looking at for sermons. They can be particularly useful on more contested or difficult passages as you can sometimes find articles that go into greater depth than any commentary is able to. I first "got into" journals when I

  • International Theological Commentary

Does anybody have the "International Theological Commentary" set? http://www.logos.com/products/details/2547 Are these commentaries worth buying either individually or as a complete set? Any thoughts or comments would be much appreciated.

  • Re: Anybody else NOT having problems with SR-1/SR-2?

Everything is working fine here with two installs of SR-2 on different computers. One desktop, quad core, 4Gb RAM running Vista 32bit and one netbook with 2Gb of RAM running XP Home. I've had none of the issues that have been reported - all interlinears working, Biblical Places, People and Things all present and correct. Haven't tried any morph searches

Update problem resolved. I set the channel to beta, rebooted and the upgrade went fine. Then set it back to default as suggested. thanks Bradley for the tip.

  • Re: 4.0a RC 2 Release Notes

Thanks Mark, that would explain why "Update Now" hasn"t worked for me. Problem is that the installer doesn't work correctly for me. It says: "Please wait while Setup downloads files" and underneath the non-moving progress bar: "Downloading Logos 4 Web Script... Progress..." Then nothing happens at all. If I press "Cancel" then the installer quits saying

  • Re: Beta 5 just downloaded

I'm running beta 4 for the moment and when I start up Logos 4 it tells me that it's trying to do 36.2Mb of downloads but the download never happens, the pop-up just stays at 0%. Downloading and running the updater from Logos.com doesn't help - it just says it can't find a needed script. "Update now" doesn't seem to do anything either. Any ideas how

  • Re: Logos 4 and french Bible

Sorry, that reply should have been to Tom and JeanMaurais. I'd love to see more resources in French - commentaries in particular. Jean Calvin in French!! Amongst the belgian pastors I know most wouldn't even use bible study software. Those that do will probably be using the Editions Clé version of the Online Bible. They have some good stuff in the latest

In reply to Tom about the features of the different versions: LSG : plain text only :( NBS : Intros to each book, study notes in the text denoted by an asterisk, some books seem to have a paragraph or two "in conclusion". Intros to each testament and intro for the whole bible. I've not spent much time reading through. I just know that they're there

  • Re: Logos 4 and french Bible

Because I speak French as a second language I do 90% of my study in English whilst also referring to all four of the French versions that I have. It would be nice to have more versions available within Logos but I have to say that of all my Logos purchases so far, SESB has to be one of the most useful. As well as the French bible versions there's a

I'm pretty much at the same point as Mitch. I still have v.3 installed "just in case" but I've not needed to go back into in the last week or so. Will probably uninstall soon - I guess the only thing stopping me is knowing that there is some stuff I want to order that is only going to be on CD so will need to be unlocked through v.3

  • A French Forum / Un forum français?

To the powers that be at Logos, Is there any chance that we could have a French speakers forum? A number of us have crept out of the woodwork in the thread on Logos 4 and the French Bible. It would be nice to be able to encourage each other in our use of Logos and in the work that we are all doing individually in different parts of the French speaking

Just re-read your post Daniel and realised that you touched on similar issues with the likes of the words for propitiation and repentance. They dilute the force of what is being said without really adding much because you need to do so much explaining... that's generally why I avoid the NBS for preaching though I do occasionally make reference to it

It's truly wonderful to see French speakers popping up in this thread! I'm a pastor in the Belgian Ardennes, been working in Belgium for nearly 9 years. I got into Logos in 2006 and have found it be an enormous help. The only disappointment has been the lack of French resources - something I've mentioned in the old newsgroups. The SESB is worth getting

Although it's an additional cost the Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible (SESB) package comes with three extra French bibles: Bible en Français Courant; La Nouvelle Bible Segond (édition d'étude); Traduction Oecuménique de la Bible At $324.95 (about 220 euros) it's pricey but you do get a bunch of other useful resources.
