Bug - Highlights not syncing at all, and Notes sometimes not syncing

Hello,

Please help. The yellow triangle has been showing up for some time now.

I use logos on a Mac and an iPhone 4S. Notes made on Mac sync fine with iPhone; but Notes made on iPhone do not sync with Mac. Highlights do not sync at all, irrespective of where they are created.

I have attached the relevant log.

Joshua, I suggest you may want to move on from the Surface Pro and look at other options. While it may convince you it's worth, it's not worth spending too much time regretting and thinking about it.

The stylus is brilliant and underlines very well. I can underline with the stylus, then use my finger to swipe to another page.

I love having super-powered Logos without having to wait for a little app to be fixed. I've used Android, WindowsPhone, IOS, and simply put: no regrets on me.

The battery is easily mitigated for me because I have multiple chargers, for the office and at home. Having been in the technology and now as a pastor, I realize if I am in front of my computer for 8 hours, something's probably wrong. So the 4-5 hour battery life doesn't matter as much as having the benefit of a full powered laptop in a tablet size. (Don't forget the full HD 1080p screen.)

The volume is too low if you plan on making hospital visits and using this as a all-in-one media system. The laptop guts squished into a tablet size just doesn't allow room for room-filling sound. Physics can't be bent enough for my needs. But I can work around this issue with a simple external speaker.

The heat of the system is comparable to any laptop. It's really a brilliant cooling system. The intel i5 processer of this laptop is 100 times more powerful than a cellphone processor (or typical tablet) and thus hotter. The good news of the innovative cooling method allows this i5 to retain it's overclock longer and more consistently. So it's even faster than most ultrabooks that don't vent as efficiently.

To answer your windows laptop question, I don't know what you have. What is your Windows Laptop?

I have no need for my quad-core laptop I used to use and I don't regret no longer having an 3.8Ghz 8-core with 16GB 1600Mhz RAM, with 4 hard drives in RAID. That was a beast, but serious overkill. This reboots in seconds, about 20, but I don't count. I hope I was helpful, as writing this helps put things in perspective for me too.

A side note, have you considered getting an Android? Maybe a combination as a phone will save money too! For instance, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with it's stylus runs a very mature Logos app and functions like a laptop for most. Since I have to create, I chose otherwise. The stylus in the Note 2 and the Surface Windows Pro are interchangeable. In fact, I use 2 pens I had laying around from my old HP TM2 and my old Acer Tablet PC. Those devices only achieved 1.5 hrs of battery, were much slower, the GPU on the HP TX series were known to melt off the cooling system.

highlighting and note taking

I am currently looking for the best way to utilize highlighting and notetaking. I am especially interested in how to use Logos 5 sermon prep and graduate-level schoolwork.I also use logos notetaking to create a note for each sermon i am preparing. Does anyone have a better way of doing this?

I'm also very interested in the process people go through each time they open program to begin research on a sermon topic. I generally read through the text several times using different translations and then study the original languages dependent upon which words interest me. Then at some point I try to read to several commentaries to see which is the best. Please let me know what your process is and how I can improve mine.

For context I wanted to say that I am a Masters level seminary student and a youth pastor who uses logos to create messages, to take notes in class and for papers as well. Again any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Highlighting footnotes.

I made a personal book so I can highlight footnote text.

1) Copy text of a long foot note

2) Past it into a word doc

3) Save it as a docx document

4) Import it as a personal book named “HighLightedFootNotes”

I highlighted the footnote number in the original resource and made a note in a Logos notes document that will include a link to the text of the footnote in my “HighLightedFootNotes” book. This all works great.

Now for the reverse reference:

I also want a link in the “HighLightedFootNotes” book that will link back to the original resource so I can review the context of the note. I highlighted the footnote number in the original resource and copied the location as a URL. This link only goes to a place somewhat close to the copied location.

I know that it is possible to click a link that will open the footnote box-window because that is what happens in search results when the word searched for is in a footnote. Clicking footnote in the search results will open the resource and pop open the footnote box-window.

Does any one know how to do it?

Here is the link result I get by copying the footnote text as a URL

logosres:cos1;ref=TheContextofScripture.COS_1.87;off=10672

but I want it to open to footnote # 13.

I have tried looking at it with a clipboard monitor (clcl) but I did not see a more precise position than that above.

Just discovered:

In windows "ctl + c" (cmd + c) will copy the last link you clicked through. So I clicked through the link to the foot note from the search results and got

logosres:cos1;ref=UgariticTexts.52:8-11;off=73. From inside the note file, this goes to the resource and focus-ring-highlight over the desired foot note reference. But goes to the beginning of the section when this same link is followed from within the personal book.

Now if we can only search these highlights without having the books opened where they are found. OK, let me explain. Sometimes I'm reading about 10 books and I find myself highlighting almost all of them. Time comes and times go. I forget what I highlighted and in what books. So I would like to see a database of all my highlights or be able to search them without having the books highlighted opened. Just a straight search for all colored highlights. The search should give me the name of the book and the date it was made and if I added a 'note'.

Am I asking too much? I hope I am not. However, if this feature is already in L5, please forgive my ignorance, but someone please tell me how to search HL when books are closed!

Notes and High lighting for iPad and iPhone

Is there the option to make notes and highlight on these two devices without update the cloud until you close the program. Unless I am set up wrong, I can do everything but these to things with acceptable speed. But if I attempt to highlight or make notes it will slow down the system to OVER A MINUTE BEFORE IT GIVES BE BACK CONTROL OR WORSE WILL LOCK LOGOS UP. Also, I wouldn't even try this if I wasn't on a high speed wifi when it happens.

I believe it is because it is update with the cloud. But why can't I control when that happens? When I leave the program or say every 5 minutes or when I choose to update?

Forgive the post if this has been addressed previously.

Highlighting / Tools Suggestion

Noob here! I am two weeks old in Logos land.

But I have about 20 years messing with computers. Anything from building a computer, board by board from the ground up, to writing software (years ago) and operating them since the mid 90s. I've used a lot of software. So I will admit, a certain look and feel is part of my presuppositions here.

My computer isn't slow. It takes too long for the highlighting tool to come up!

Remember noob...but that is important too - ease of use....

After making a mistake highlighting, it isn't easy to figure out how. My problems here

a) you call this tool/operation "highlighting" in one tab/pane and refer to the same thing as annotation when doing a right click on the highlighted text. I figured this out by accident. That's not a good sign of ease of use.

b) I mistakenly used the tool that highlights the text. I intended to change the background. In the highlighting screen, I could find no way of turning things off, in the same place where I turned them on. That's a no no. Also, in desperation, I would have been happy to have just changed the highlighted text back to black, but that was offered at all.

c) I discussed the lack of speed

d) these tools should not only be buried in a nested menu. Tools like this and bookmarks might be nice as little icons on the top of the program somewhere - like the icons in a word processor. This would make transition a lot faster.

I don't want to only "complain". I LOVE THIS THING! If I was just smart enough to use it! I know it has so much under the hood that I haven't even come close to unlocking yet.

BUG: Highlight link loss

The note entry marked in green was a copy and paste from the resource - note that it has an active link.

The note entry marked in brown was originally identical to the above but placed in a different highlight note. When I decided to divide the note, I used a cut and paste to place it in this note. The link was lost.

Changes needed for the Sentence Diagram Feature

Hi there,

Right now i am using my UBS4 interlinear with the Greek "Manuscript" and "English Literal Translation" boxes checked under "display".

I have created a Visual Filter for the verb types ( example, aorist verbs show up as blue text)

Next, i want to copy a passage from my UBS4 and paste it in the "sentence diagram" area so that i can break up the clauses by coordinate and subordinate

Basically, i am just trying to use Logos to accomplish:

chapter 26 of David Allen Blacks "Learn to Read New Testament Greek" third edition.

another way to look at it is that i am trying to practice doing what Steve Runge is teaching in his book

"Discourse Grammar of the Greek New Testament"

I would love my finished product to somewhat resemble Runge's Lexham Discourse Greek New Testament

I am hoping that Logos will be the tool i can use to learn this important aspect of exegesis.

I think it will work if you can make it so that:

1. interlinear display features can be turned on and off in the sentence diagram space

2. all Logos highlighting features can be copied and pasted into the sentance diagram space from the resource (like the UBS4)

thanks for considering this!

I think it will make Logos an excellent program for intermediate Greek users to learn and practice proper Exegesis

and will be an excellent selling point.

p.s. i do have the Platinum Scholar's Logos 4 for Mac, so i know this is not a version/level issue

(and i tested this in my friends Logos 5 Windows version and the same changes are still needed)
