I hope you stay connected for years to come!
Thank you Rosie and Bruce for your kind words. I've been physically and emotionally drained due to fear and anxiety and those kind words put a smile on my face that needed it. May God bless you both always forever!
Dear James,
I'm very sorry to hear you too struggle with fear and anxiety. Bill Anderson recently shared his struggle with that, and asked for suggested Logos resources to help him with it.
We're not a tremendously close-knit prayer community since very few of us have ever met in person, and the forums exist mostly for exchange of info about Logos Bible Software, but we do pray for each other now and then when someone has a big need. I will pray for you. I know what anxiety feels like (I'm on meds to control it), and it is truly mentally and physically and spiritually draining. It's usually not something you (or anyone else) can talk yourself out of, because it's not usually based on any rational fears of something legitimate to be worried about. In my case it's often an involuntary biological sensation (knotted stomach, sweating, rapid breathing, heart palpitations) for which I can't even think of any stressful situation in my life that might be causing it. It's just random and uncontrollable. Sometimes deep breathing helps, or taking a hot bath, or having a cup of calming tea, or talking to a friend. But usually I can't even make it go away with all of the usual strategies. The best thing is distracting myself with something addictive (like playing games online) but that's just substituting one bad thing in my life for another, so it's not a permanent solution.
Anyway, I do pray for you, for peace and the ability to relax your bodily responses to cognitive fears. One thing that has helped me a lot is mindfulness meditation. I know it sounds like something unchristian, or anti-christian, but it has nothing to do with belief systems at all, nor is it contrary to faith. It's more of a stress-management technique that has been recommended by medical professionals. The book I read about it was Calming Your Anxious Mind: How Mindfulness & Compassion Can Free You from Anxiety, Fear & Panic by Jeffrey Brantley, MD. But there are also lots of suggestions of books available in Logos/Vyrso on that other thread which might be of help to you. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, and he provides us with all kinds of helps from our natural environment (herbs and such for making medicines, exercise, nutrition, sleep, fresh air and beauty in nature, and other helpful things) to take care of our bodies, so I consider meditation for health purposes to be in that same category.
Blessings in Christ,Rosie
