I've been looking for a study group to join but most I find are inactive.
I think people should think about them differently than they do these forums. I'm betting that the reason the groups are not that active is people would just rather post/read here. That's my feeling. Unless you have a group of people that want to study one topic or are tied to one small group or church then they likely won't get that active.
I created a sermon illustrations group and posted on illustration, but no one else did. So I gave up on it.

I think people misunderstand the purpose of the groups. The primary purpose is not for an exclusive online community (though that can work) but rather a physical group that meets regularly but is connected during the week online.
