What is the difference in the meaning between γινώσκω and ἐπιγινώσκω?

Words don't generally have one and only one significance. Their meaning in part depends upon the context in which they are found. Γινώσκω and ἐπιγινώσκω may have little or no difference in some contexts though in some cases ἐπιγινώκω seems to have an emphasis on the acquisition of knowledge or with the mental process resulting therefrom.
