creating a personal book

I'm having a hard time creating a personal book. I create the document, save it in open XLM format. When Logos tries to build it, I get errors, and it doesn't work. I have two already that I uploaded some time ago, real books that I have on my drive. I don't know what was different, except those were done with Logos 5.

Any thoughts?

Hi Larry:

I'm not sure about all those other formats available in Word, but for PBs, you should use the "Word Document (*.docx)".

Unless you know something I don't, Logos only creates personal books from .docx files, so that is likely your problem.

the Logos help file said to save in office open XML format, which is supposed to be that .docx.

I did and that didn't work. the other person who responded said to save to Word Document, and they did work. So I have my answer. thank you.

That is problematic. I will alert someone from Faithlife so they can see about editing the Help File to make it less confusing. I've never seen a Word .docx file called "Office Open XML Format" when explaining things to users. Yes, technically that's what it is inside, but if you just save it from Word as a Word Document (.docx file) and don't think about it as any special kind of format it should work. The wording in the Help file is odd.

It might have led you to save it as one of the circled .xml file formats which would not work, instead of .docx. Is that what you did?

thank you. I have Word 2013, and none of the options when I save a file says that it is a .docx format like in your picture. It says Word Document, and it has an option open XML, which I said doesn't work.

I have Word 2013 too. On Windows. Yours must be Mac, I'm guessing.

no, mine is Windows. I checked again to see if I was losing it. but, no, when I try to save a file, the options don't show what the document extensions are.

When you first install Office it asks you which default format you want, and "Office Open XML format" is the official name to describe a .docx file:

Maybe you have Windows set to not show file extensions. You can change this in the Control Panel under Folder Options if you want to: just make sure this checkbox is cleared:

OK, I'm missing something here. I unclicked the box that you suggested. There is an OK button, and there is an APPLY button that is grayed out. When I went back to WORD, I didn't see anything different. What am I missing?

I'm pretty sure you can. I've seen it mentioned before. As long as it can save .docx files, it'll work to create Logos Personal Books. I've never used it myself, though, so I can't give you an endorsement of it.

I had never heard of this either. I've rephrased it for the next update to just be "Save the document(s) to your hard drive as a Word Document (.docx)."
