Too High Priced

I have been a Logos user since 2.0, a long time. I am now retired. My big concern is regarding the high cost of the new Logos products. To really enjoy Logos you have to have a big fat wallet! Not much any more for the simple folks like me. For me to get the Logos 6 upgrade is completely out of my reach. It is a great product but am really saddened when I read about all the improvements but will never get an opportunity to use them myself. I just needed to express my disappointment on where Logos is going. They are leaving many behind never to catch up!

Ted, were you aware that you can get the Logos 6 core engine for free? There is no requirement to buy any upgrade package. There are some datasets that are required to use some of the new features in Logos 6, but you can still benefit from a lot of what L6 has to offer without them. If you wanted the core engine and the new datasets, with no new resources, you would need to get the Logos 6 Core Crossgrade, which I admit is out of the reach of most simple folks at nearly $400. But never fear. You don't need this. Just the free engine upgrade might satisfy your curiosity for improvements, and there will be bug fixes you'll benefit from too.

Hi Ted, like yourself I have used Logos for years starting in 1995 (if not 1995) somewhere close to that when Logos was on just one large floppy disk. Logos has been and is a awesome help in Bible study and sermon preparation. I am right on the edge of retirement and also will not be able to afford the next generation of Logos 7 when I do retire. It was folks you & I that helped Logos financially in it's early days. Very best to you and your ministry. God bless.

Ted, as cool as some of the new InteractIves are in Logos 6, I recently downgraded back to 5 in hopes of CPU-heavy Logos not freezing almost every time I use it... I liked the general direction of 6 well enough, but haven't really missed it, in case that's any consolation.

I made the same commitment as you did in Logos. I started back with Logos 1.6 and it was only when I was able to get serious academic discount when I was doing my PhD as a part-time student in 2005 that I made the move to buy base packages first to Original Langauges Library then to Gold in 2006. Without the huge discounts I got via special University of Aberdeen promotions I wouldn't have been able to afford it. I got a good deal moving to L4 Platinum but I didn't step up to L5 Platinum just crossgraded. That's all I could afford with L6. I'm grateful for what I have but I'm only buying special offers and CP and Prepubs now, except for some single volumes. I'm due to retire when I reach 70. (I'm 68 this year.) So I shall keep on buying judiciously, as funds allow. I don't buy on credit, because I just don't work that way.

I thank God for Logos and use it every day for sermon preparation or academic study. I'm not worried about not having a massive library, though somehow I have amassed 5000 books! I would never have had room to buy that number in print form. And my library is beautifully dovetailed by Logos tagged texts.

As Paul said, "I've learned to be content." (I'm paraphrasing.)

Enjoy the resources you have and learn to use them more effectively.

There's a lot of high end stuff in Logos that most of us will never buy or use. No big deal. I made a decision to go with Logos, not because I'm rich, but because it was a lot cheaper than going to seminary (where I would have to buy Logos anyway).

I use public transportation to get around. I'm sure it would be nicer to drive a Maserati. I still get where I need to go.
