Everything I select for a note gets highlighted

I have a couple notes documents where I comment on what I'm studying. I added a new one yesterday called Tags, and now every time I add a note to Tags, the text I selected gets highlighted. I don't know if this is a bug or an unwanted feature. It doesn't happen for my other notes docs and I don't see any place to configure notes.

Does anyone have a fix?

It might help if you provide screen shots and explicit instructions for how you are creating notes.

Adding a note to a text does tend to highlight whatever text you select. I handle this by only highlighting something like a period at the end of the text I want to make a note on.

You can certainly add notes without a highlight... And you can take the highlight off of the note selection. I am not on my MacBook at the moment. I am thinking that the last used style is used...

Yes,

Go into your Tags Note file and click on a note
then click on the note indicator (the icon which appears next to your notes in your resources)
then in the pop-up menu select No Highlight (it would be wise to also select your typical Note indicator & its color)
then at the bottom of the pop-up menu click on Use this style by default

Now the new notes that you add to this Note file should not highlight, but just show your Note indicator.
