Slowwwww....

I am a long-time user of Logos, but Logos 4 seems incredibly slow. Even after indexing, it may be the same speed as Logos 3, but certainly not any faster.

Any suggestions? I think I have AVG (virus scan) bypassing the Libronix folder -- by making an exception in AVG. I also tried to run it as administrator, but that didn't seem to help.

I have a Sony VGN-FZ320e laptop. It has a 1.6 core duo processor, vista, and 2 GB RAM. It's not top of the line, but it should be able to handle the software, right?

This issue comes up frequently as new users try out Logos. Search the forum for 'speed' or 'slow' and you'll get plenty of relevant hits.

Logos 4 is a demanding application. I was dissatisfied with my performance until I did some upgrading. You can see what I'm running now below. Before I had a primary hard drive running at 5400 RPM, just 2 GB of RAM and was using Vista Business Edition (32-bit). For me upgrading my computer was the solution to my speed issues. That is not to say I wouldn't like more speed at times. Libronix (Logos 3) is faster in most ways.

I'm sorry you are having speed issues. Perhaps others can suggest some tweaks. As I said, there has been extensive discussion in a number of threads and some good suggestions made. But in the end one's computer limits Logos 4 much more than it did with Logos 3.

Do you have integrated or discrete graphics? Either way you are running under the recommended stats for the program; slow performance is probably to be expected on a machine with your specs. Also, you probably have a 5400 RPM HD, 7200 RPM HDs work a lot better with Logos.

DVD drive

1280X1024 display

512MB DirectX9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

20 GB hard drive space on local drive (May require additional space depending on your library).

Hey Joel, One other suggestion that works for many people is to turn off tablet input services. You can find instructions for doing this in the wiki. Even is your laptop is not a tablet model, these services may still be turned on and for some reason they tend to interfere with L4s performance. This, along with running as administrator broke a lot of the chains off L4 for me. Hope this helps you.

One other thing you will notice among the many threads-we all seem to have a differnet concpet of how we define slow and fast. Some folks that say theri system is fast also report how long something takes to happen-and theri reported speed I would consider slow. Others have tried to quantify it by saying search this word and time it, then open this resouce and time it. Evidently, compared to those folks my system is moving fairly quickly. I will say, either my perseption of speed or L4 has actually sped up since I first installed. It is not as zippy as I would like. But, I was also trying to get over the massive paradigm shift in the way I was doing things in L3. I like the concept now or am used to it, possibly. And, truthfully, once I get into my preferred layout, nothign moves too much becasue I am pondering, studying, making notes, etc.

But, your experience should be better if you have the faster drives, etc. that others are suggesting.
