I was delving into the well-regarded Logos Atlas near Megiddo and wondering why a Roman legion would be located nearby. And in-between sips of my rasberry tea, I was also wondering how much climbing was involved at Chimney Rock (SW Colorado).
Enter 'Footpath', an iOS app. I think it's free with an in-app for fancy stuff. Anyway you just draw on the map and it tells you the distance and altitude changes, etc. Automatically snaps to any roads, paths, etc.
It's designed for cyclists, hikers, etc. and of course learning about Jesus! Great in a Bible class.
You just swing over to Israel, draw the approximate route he had to take and you have an excellent description of torture (unless you brought your donkey). I didn't know climbing out of the Sea of Tiberius up to the testy village of Samaria was a fairly decent climb. I knew the Jericho to Jerusalem was best taken in reverse.
Very interesting little app. Now I'm going to track Paul going up to Iconium (after another sip of tea).
