Syntax Search Questions

I've been really trying to understand how to use Syntax Search better. I've been posting on Faithlife but there hasn't been many responses other than from Fr. Devin Roza (Thanks!). I know there are some other people on here who know this tool well. So, please, some explanations would be super helpful! I'm going to be posting questions on here as they come up and hopefully I'll get some answers and others will be helped from these questions.

Can someone explain "instance" under the agreement section to me? Tried looking into this and can't find anything.

Also I've been trying to understand how to search for conjunctions in a syntax search. I've been trying to search for this construction with a δε.

When I searched this

I get the proper results

But, if I try putting the δὲ anywhere, it doesn't come up. I've been trying to figure out where conjunctions go within a search, what level, and I just can't figure it out. Help would be awesome!

This is a particularly nasty construction because the clauses cut across each other instead of being sequential. Which means you have to specify "gaps" to get to the term you want and this isn't easy. This will show you the problem

As for a solution....someone else may have an answer.

What do you mean by this? It seems to be a pretty simple dependent to subordinate ὅτι clause. But, I think I'm not following you here more then you aren't being clear. [:)]

How does the "gap" function in syntax search? Don't fully get that.

I'm just really wanting to understand to search for post-positive conjunctions like δὲ and γὰρ that aren't going to be inside of the clauses and will always be preceded by a word.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What do you mean by this?

The Clause dependency line at top left (Jas 1:10), and that of the adjacent Clause-VbEl, "cut across" the conjunction below i.e. the conjunction is not included in either; instead it belongs to a Clause in Jas 1:9, which also cuts-across a conjunction. If the clause skips words in the text (is not sequential) it creates "gaps" which have to be accounted for when constructing queries in order to get expected results.. This is NOT easy.

Look at the Opentext equivalent

The Clauses (PC & SC) are much simpler and you should have an easier time searching for post-positive conjunctions.

Just wanted to share that I think I was able to figure it out in Cascadia. I don't understand the breakdown of the search exactly, but it works, so I thought I'd share.

But, you were right. Opentext was way easier. Different results. But that's because of their analysis.

Overall, I think I got both searches I wanted on both Cascadia and Opentext. I think I'm a happy cat.

I think Cascadia for Jas 2:20 reflects the same analysis as OpenText but is horrible to query. But OpenText has a different analysis for Jas 1:22-24.
