Logos 5.0 Update issue

Opened Logos. It downloaded the corrections for all files (as usual). When it finished, the following message appeared: "An update is ready to be installed for Logos 5.0." When I attempted to run the update, the following error message appeared:

Error writing to file:
\Users\JDM\AppData\Local\Logos4\System\Logos.TouchPoints.dll.
Verify that you have access to that directory.

It gave me the option to RETRY or CANCEL. RETRY did nothing. When I cancel, it bypasses the 5.0 update and opens in the previous format.

How do I implement this 5.0 Update?

I've attached the Logos Log Files. Thank you for any help you can provide.

How do I implement this 5.0 Update?

While I suggest you resolve this permission issue first please be aware that Logos 6 is now available and the core engine is available for free at https://www.logos.com/install

Is it possible (advisable) to completely uninstall Logos/Libronix from my hard drive, then just download the free 6.0 core engine, and finish up by letting the 6.0 download all of my purchased books/files? A secondary question would be: by going to the free 6.0, what will I lose? I have read through the 5.0 posts, and there seems to be a bit of concern/confusion as to whether all of the 5.0 features that I bought will still work after I replace the core engine with the free 6.0.

You will not lose anything. Some features have been moved or rebranded but all of your content and features are still there.

Logos 5 Maps and Biblical People Diagrams (stick figures) have been converted to resources. Whilst Atlas downloadable maps are available you need to purchase a package or crossgrade. Factbook replaces and enhances Bible Facts (except for the Maps)

No it is not necessary. If you must do so use method three from this link. https://wiki.logos.com/Install_Logos_for_multiple_users

Lynden means that you can back up your Logos 5 resources, uninstall Logos 5, delete the Logos5 folder and use Method 3 at https://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers.

But a simple upgrade of Logos 5 to Logos 6 will avoid a lot of indexing

First of all, thank you for your patience and your extended help. Regarding "simply upgrading to 6.0": Are you referring to the FREE upgrade of 6.0? Or the paid upgrade? If you're suggesting the paid upgrade, that's out of the question.

I have had Logos since version 1.0. In fact, I bought into Logos when the company was VERY small, and I even spoke on the phone for over one hour with Bob, encouraging him to go forward with a Mac version (when my only computer was a Mac. That was a great phone call! I learned a LOT about Bob's background (that he LOVED Apple's products but knew, financially, he had to go with Windows version first), as well as his passion for what he was doing, for his relationship with his Creator, and his love for the Word of God. He asked me to hang in with him, try the Windows version for now, and he promised that, one day, he WOULD have a Mac version. And he does. However, although I still love Macs, and will one day soon own an AirBook or iPad, I currently have an HP Pavilion w/Windows 7, maxed with RAM and 2 TB hard drive.

Having filled you in on a little history, I'm simply being honest with you in stating that I've spent THOUSANDS with Logos over the years, continuously upgrading and adding HUNDREDS of additional books and sets of books...many of which later were added in as part of the package level that I'd originally purchased. That was a bit discouraging! At this point, I'm not spending another $300-$400 to upgrade again.

So...are you suggesting upgrading to the FREE 6.0? Are you certain there will be no hitches? I have read a lot of the forum postings and answers. There was one posting about upgrading to 6.0 and losing the Timeline feature. Is this true?

I suggested a simple upgrade as you had previously talked about the free Core engine.

No. My wife has the free upgrade and it is still there i.e. Tools >> Timeline. If you have the 8 Timeline resources from Logos 4 you retain those as well.

Hi John,

I had a similar problem, in that I required a feature (the ability to copy my purchased content to my Kindle e-reader) that simply is not possible in version 5.2b (the last version of Logos 5). After the recommendation to move to the free core engine of Logos 6, I can confirm that it does, indeed, work perfectly. None of my features have been removed, and I can now read most of my library on my e-reader (larger files won't transfer, but I believe this is Amazon's limitation). Give it a shot. If worst comes to worst, you'll just install 5 again. But I lost nothing, and gained new functionality.
