Archaelogist Koldeway and The Writing on the Wall - Did Koldeway actually find the wall God wrote on

Hi I am concerned this

Pondering Dan 5 - The Fingers: Why then, there, that time and not more dramatically before or ever again?

may get buried our overlooked but wondered if anyone can direct me to something reliable where Koldeway actually thought or believed or demonstrated he had found the very room or wall God had written on in Daniel?

All I find is refuted info on the hanging gardens of Babylon not reports or research on the actual wall God wrote on please.

Feel free to roll your eyes, chuckle or smile at least..but a leg up on this one would be more appreciated.

I find it amazing that so many of the great accounts (miraculous events) in our Bible that we seem to take for granted have very little historically or archaelogically at times don't you?

Isn't it time for a good long easy to read, engrossing, well researched movie or book be made available on some of these well known but perhaps not well researched (lately) items in our Bible? (I head a recent Book of Daniel movie was a bust actually..what a shame...He and Elijah and others deserve better. I wrote Mr. Spielberg but to date he has ignored me.)

Apart from this flight of fancy above (trust me I am not seeking to be an archaelogist) I would like to preach expositionally and effectively on Daniel 5 soon. Rabbit trail I should let go of, huh?

I can't imagine how anyone'd every positively identify a royal room (eating, judgment, etc), absent being uniquely identified somehow. I can't think of a single example (temple rooms are easier).

But I don't share your disappointment.

The account in Daniel is chock-full of small details that Logos resources speak to, and make good presentation examples. The primary one is ancient kings dependence of consulting their priest-groups for decision making (much discussion on what happened when they were wrong). And indeed, in the Babylon lineup, there's extreme examples of the dependence.

Another is the queen's involvement in calling the correct interpreter. There's quite a number of examples of the queens' management of the priest-groups. So her calling a jewish man would be significant.

I'd assume your commentaries will be invaluable for examples.

In case you haven’t seen either of these, of course it doesn’t mention the exact wall – though I still found both to be quite to be interesting.

Here’s an article by Jastrow about Koldewey’s discovery which was originally published in 1902.

And here’s another stating the site received considerable damage from the U.S. military during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Scott and Denise - thanks so much. I find no evidence that anyone to date has found the actual wall though I confess if I was one of the servicemen and women during DesertStorm I might have been tempted to get permission to join the Chaplain in writing it on the wall for the world to resee back then.
