Missing Hyperlink.

Anyone else have this issue with Boice's Commentary on the Psalms and not hyperlinking to Spurgeon's Treasury of David? I see that the citation is from Zondervan and that the copy in Logos is of their own production. Any reason these can't work together?

the only reason that I can think of is that the resource must be tagged to link... Such links don't happen automatically. Some users complain about constant resource updates, but those updates bring us features like this.

My personal take: The users' priorities are not necessarily the same as Faithlife's or other users when it comes to which resources to work on now. Faithlife has provided a list of the resources released in February after tagging/upgrades of various sorts. And there remains the issue of new resources incompletely tagged. But we now have the information necessary to "hold their feet to the fire" when/if we believe their priorities to be wrong. So I suggest holding their feet to the fire, keep the fire well fueled, and recommend resources to your friends to keep the revenue coming in.

Concerning Boice's Commentary on the Psalms

When this was produced we had not yet produced Spurgeon's Treasury of David commentary. Thus there was no target resource that we could have tagged. Boice's Expositional Commentaries do look like good candidates for updating though. I have added them to our queue. I have no timetable on when they'll be done.

Concerning the incorrect Bible links in Moo's commentary

There are over 7500 Bible references in this commentary alone. It's entirely plausible that a reference would get mistagged and then slip through QC. Please feel free to report one-off instances like this via the "Report Typo" function in the App.

Concerning From Heaven He Came:

There was no error here. The author of From Heaven is citing an earlier edition of Let the Nations Be Glad. We carry the third--new and revised--edition of Let the Nations Be Glad. Not even the pagination matches.

Concerning Updates:

Paraphrasing MJ here: all users are unique and all users have different priorities when it comes to determining which resources should be updated and when. We do our best to target resources that benefit as many as possible and/or will significantly increase the functionality of the resource in question. With that in mind, we're always open to receiving suggestion to what titles/series/collections may benefit from an update. Case in point: the aforementioned request to update Boice's Commentary on the Psams is a great suggestion and we've put it in our queue.

Is Church Dogmatics on the list? Right now, references ate largely not tagged (at least put a bibliographic tooltip translating Barth's abbreviations for books not in Logos) and page references to the standard edition (in the margins of the print study edition) are only given for section headings, making this very expensive set hard to use for writing. I know it is a huge project, but just knowing that reporting untagged references is going into someone's list somewhere will motivate me to press on.

1. I posted here precisely because of the volume of errors and the variety of resources they are in. I simply cannot report a typo in every instance I find them. There are too many of them. Furthermore, I have yet to see a typo I report be updated in a work.

2. The "quality" in your QC process should be revised. I don't know what you consider to be an acceptable number of missing hyperlinks. However, when I pay $30+ for a book in Logos that I ALREADY have in Kindle for $3, none is about the right number for me.

3.Again, the issue is that this is a flagship feature for Logos, there needs to be a better QA system and a quicker turn around on updates.

4. While I have no idea on what Logos makes on its software and the state of the finances and fully embrace that disclaimer. It would seem to me that with the addition of so many other avenues Faithlife is pursuing (Dating website???) Employing a couple of employees to scan these works and continue to improve your/our software and its efficiency would be very well spent.

What does this mean? You will add it to a list of resources that need to be updated? There is a possibility that now you are aware of no hyperlinks in the resource you will not correct them? Will some resources never be updated? How do you determine where on a list that resources get placed to be updated?

My hope is that Logos will begin to see that the need for better QA intially and continuing improvement of their products is blatantly apparent.

Now, I have just finished reading Owen's work and know it exists. If this is linked to a "different version that Logos can't like to for whatever reason" then why is there a hyperlink at all?

The author of "From Heaven He Came and Sought Her" alternates citations to Owen's Death of Death between two different editions. The citation found on page 602 is for resource ID LLS:42.90.1216. Unfortunately, this is not an edition we sell any more but it is supported in our library and which people own. Tagging the citation to the other edition of Death of Death (WORKSOWEN10) that is cited in the book would have been an incorrect page jump and left the reader at an incorrect location in the book.

I have found the issue of missing/wrong hyperlinks incredibly frustrating as well. I think the task is probably much too large to get done effectively without crowd-sourcing (especially in light of the enormous amount of volumes that get added to the eco-system each year). There is a UserVoice suggestion that I found, which I believe would be an incredible solution. My thought is that the suggestion could be tweaked to include a peer-review process (or senior-member-review) before being "pushed" to resource updates. Perhaps this could be done through a Faithlife group, so that all members of the group could benefit immediately as well as help peer-review. Non group members would only benefit once the resources were "officially" updated.

I've seen a similar discussion, but can't find it right now.

Let's support Jonathan's suggestion and vote here.

We can't "make" corrections - I am a strong supporter of the crowdsourcing idea to fix this for typos as well as for missing links by way of a Visual Filter where i can turn on/off the corrections - but the Community Notes may be used to give the link (and someday they may even work on clicking).

As it turns out the references are tagged and do point to two of Calvin's Commentaries that are found in the greater Logos Library.

That being said, I do think these would be better served pointing to different versions of Calvin's Commentaries also found the greater Logos Library. I'm working on a solution that would improve not only this resource but others facing a similar situation. I have no ETA yet.

Would you be in favor of allowing users to add hyperlinks and CORRECT (not just report) typos? Perhaps you'd have ideas about how this could work, that you'd like to share at this thread.

Let's get unified as to how this should look, then practice our importunity until it comes to fruition! [:D] It really shouldn't be a hard sell to anyone, as I see it. Logos gets a whole bunch of eager, volunteer employees, and we get to hyperlink and see FIXED typos! All while helping each other and benefitting from each other. Win, win, win! Why not?!

There are three Piper references in that footnote. The first two are tagged properly. I imagine you were concerned about the second reference to Desiring God. That reference is to an edition of Desiring God that we do not carry.

As for the Let the Nations Be Glad reference. We outsmarted ourselves on that one. Strictly speaking we should have tagged the page numbers however the page numbers themselves belong to an earlier edition and are thus sort of incorrect. Nevertheless, I've updated resource. I'm not publishing the update at this time though. We have a fix in place that will improve all user's experience for cases where John Calvin's Commentaries have been cited. The first portion of that fix is currently underway and once it gets implemented fully, this resource is included in the list of resources that will benefit from that update.

I know the reason for this is that you acquired Stott after this was already in Logos's catalog. However, Logos MUST maintain these books.

Again, I post these here so to motivate Logos to retroactively update these works. When Stott was released, why was there not a search done for when he was referenced? And then those citations updated? This is a huge ball (perhaps the biggest that there can be) that Logos is dropping. My posts in this topic are not to humiliate or denigrate the software. Thirteen years and $6,000+ has shown my loyalty. However, the quality and integrity of Logos and its software suffers because this is not done.

I agree that Logos must maintain their tagging. However, it is clear from your posts that my priorities are different than yours. My concern is that generic references (apocrypha, pseudepigraphia, church fathers, rabbinic literature etc.) be linked. In these cases specific references are not given so the user cannot simply open the book and go to the page. the cases that you have listed in this thread (with the exception of Calvin's Commentaries) are not that difficult to find as you know title and page ... to me these are lower priority. Sorry.

Thank you for the report Everett. When making typo reports like these, please be sure to include resource support info too. It make finding the appropriate resource much easier. Also, you will be glad to know that the complete Boice commentary set is up for updating. At this point, it will really be more beneficial to keep using the report typo feature, as none of the persons working on the typo report have access to the forums.

My main point for putting them into this thread is the sheer frequency that I find them and that Logos does not have a timely schedule or a publication of changes made. My earlier comments reference why I feel I have to do this to get something done.

I would say your resources are just as important as mine or anyone else's. Whenver any aren't tagger correctly, we all suffer. Too frequently I come upon these in my study and when they are links I can't use that I otherwise would, I post it here. Those that I find in just reading I tend to ignore. I can't post all of them, it would take too long. A QA team put in place for this would solve mine and your problems. And the more wheels that squeak, the better.

Thank heavens for the report typo which is faster.

I'm not sure a QA team would resolve the matter as I tend to categorize the errors as follows:

resources originally correctly but requiring additional tagging because of software changes and/or resource changes including Logos Controlled Vocabulary
resources originally tagged incorrectly due to lack of resource specific information e.g. the BCP's original came without psalm links where Latin incipits were used as the reference
errors in resource tagging as the result of the automated process being unable to correctly decipher the publisher's intent e.g. assigning the wrong book to a chapter/verse reference. These can only be identified and corrected manually.
missing tagging due to a non-standard reference scheme in the book so that the automated process does not recognize it. These sometimes can be corrected automatically but their initial identification must be manual.
genuine errors

The fix is, therefore fairly complex, requiring:

extensive pre-planning of datatypes to allow references across multiple editions of a resource
extensive citation mapping so that when a resource is added they can identify all resources that now require updating
building screening capabilities to identify all candidates for coding for new features
some method of noting when new additions to LCV add ambiguity to a previously unambiguous name or word
beefed up QA with subject matter experts in a variety of areas
additional resources .... for which we as users have to pay
