Desired feature: Special characters in Notes

I know that I can go outside Logos to get any Unicode character that I wish, but it would be cool if I could access them within Notes, perhaps in a floating window. And I wish I could turn on curly quotes.

Or maybe there's a better way that I've missed?

As you said, "outside Logos." Use CharMap to locate the code for the desired character and then input it with the alt key and the numeric keypad (some may need to be copied and pasted).

Yes, you can use CharMap (if you're on Windows; presumably Mac has something similar?), and you can make it into a floating window using the free utility DeskPins (again, Windows).

If the primary special characters you want to be able to enter are Greek and Hebrew letters and possibly other biblical languages, you could use Logos's own tool, Shibboleth (again with DeskPins to keep it floating on top).

Indeed there is Rosie (although it is not obvious just how).

On Mac you need to access the keyboard viewer...

And hit Show Character Viewer.

This will give you the standard Character viewer which you can leave as a floating window to use where you will...

However in its default state it is sadly lacking in Hebrew (and other language scripts) but all is not lost.

You need to click on the gear icon on the top left of this window, select 'Customize List' (ignoring the strange z in that word) and from there turn on the languages you want...

Just with a double click.

I can get any Unicode character (if I know its number) by typing the number in the search box.

Thanks, Rosie. I use charmap routinely. I've occasionally used Shibboleth. Just hoping for something easier.

Kinda wish I could write notes with curly quotes turned on, with double dashes that turn to em dashes, etc. Not necessary, just nice.

Yes, that would be nice. Those are usually called "smart quotes"; Word does them (and the em dashes), but not many other apps do. Logos could. It shouldn't be too hard.

You could make a special note file which contained special characters that you frequently use (see top half of image below). Then you copy/paste those into your current note (bottom half of image below). P.S. You can also select one or more characters and hold the Ctrl key down and drag them to your current note (which will not remove them, but make a copy of them when you drop them in your current note).

Edit: i would also set the Special Note File to be shown in the Zoomed mode, it will make the characters easier to select and they will NOT be zoomed when you paste them into other Note files.

Good idea, Steve. I think I'll do this.

I'm already doing that in a text file for characters I use (I'm a math teacher, even though I have MathType). I could just copy that file into a Logos note.
