Lookup in Dictionary Available on iPad but not Logos6?

Sorry, this may be a stupid question, but it's driving me nuts and I can't find an answer. I have just moved over to using my Macbook with Logos6 for my main study time and I'm having a harder time adjusting to some of the differences that seem to me should be very intuitive? I even went through the tutorial video on dictionary lookups.

In the two screen shots below you will see the difference. All I wanted to do was simply define (Webster's was fine) the term "Etymologically" that shows in the ESV Intro to Job.

On the iPad, no problem, highlight the word, click "look up" and window pops up with what is a definition of the term from "New Oxford American Dictionary." Perfect.

I did that only after 30 minutes of trying to get the desktop version to do anything like that and it wouldn't (see other screen shot). If you do a "power lookup" you get nothing. If you double click you get nothing, if you right click and what you should get right below "share" is the dictionary the where the term is available, but you get nothing.

My question(s) is this.

1. Am I missing something? Why is something that seems like it should be SO easy on Logos6 so hard?
2. What should I have done in the example given to get the result I wanted, to define "Etymologically" without drastically interrupting my study?

You can click "Power Lookup" or simply double click the word. That should get you what you are looking for. Also make sure you have the dictionary you wish to use prioritized.

Thanks, that was sorta what my problem was, that does not work in this case.

You can click "power lookup" and it does nothing, shows a blank panel. You double click the word, same thing, nothing comes up. I have a prioritized dictionary.

Doing those things works on other words, it just didn't work on this word, and it should have?

Is the word you are looking up actually in that particular dictionary?

It is not in root form in my "prioritized" dictionary (which is biblical dictionary), but it is of course in the "Webster's Collegiate" which in my library.

The difference I seemed to have found as far as the iPad to desktop version is that the iPad is using the dictionaries downloaded locally to the iPad, which in my case is the New Oxford American and the Apple Dictionary (of course neither of which are in Logos6).

It just seems odd I can easily get a simple definition of a word on an iPad but not on the desktop.

I will say, on the iPad, when you ask it to look up "Etymologically" it gives you the definition for "Etymology" which is logical, that is the root word. Etymology is a defined word in the Webster's on Logos6 because that is the root word and Etymologically falls under the root.

That answers it. The MW does not have the word Etymologically where as the Oxford does (under the definition for Etymology). That is why it isn't pulling up in L6 because the dictionary doesn't have the word (technically).

Try another more common word to make sure the feature is working but I believe that is going to be our answer.

Randy, yes, thanks, I have since learned that the Logos iOS app uses the iOS8 dictionary, not the dictionaries included in my library, and in doing so, gives different results depending on the word

@ David thanks, you are correct, MW doesn't have the word within its definition (though it seems like it should, but that's a publication issue), guess I'll have to invest in the Oxford after all
