Updates ready (recommended)

Well, Logos 4 Mac just downloaded 1GB + of updates. However, I can't figure out how to get it to use them and update! The pulldown on the indexer icon in the menu bar shows "Updates ready (recommended)", and clicking on that seems to do nothing. I've stopped and restarted Logos 4 Mac... Is there something else I'm supposed to do?

Thanks...

    Nope, that should be it.

EDIT: that was a bit curt of me. Logos should have updated during the restart. A download that big was probably updated resources; I doubt it was a program update because I haven't seen release notes on the forum.

  • Alpha version does lack some feedback about what's happening.  Joe Miller wrote an excellent tutorial for reporting bugs:

    http://community.logos.com/forums/t/6747.aspx

Possibility: step 1 includes turning on Logos 4 logging.

Log files can be opened while Logos 4 is running to see what is happening (e.g. identifying resources, indexing, etc).  When background work completes or indexer crashes, blue menu icon goes away.

By the way, initial indexing can take hours => faster word searches.

    Keep Smiling :)

Well... ok... but if this is the case, why does the menu bar still say, "Updates ready (recommended)"?

Ah, that wasn't clear from your first post. Have you tried right clicking on the blue icon too? Have you restarted your computer since then? If you haven't it sounds like you should enable logging and post them to the forum, perhaps you've found a bug.

...and no, I didn't restart my Mac... I certainly hope that Logos will not require restarting a Mac! The only time I typically do that is when I update the core operating system...

I think you can safely ignore this message. It was a hold-over from the Windows version. You ought to be able to right click and "cancel All", you may have to hold down Cmd+Shift+Right-Click to get Cancel All to show up (depending on which Alpha).

Once the indexer re-runs the message should go away. Resource updates are installed/indexed next time Logos 4 runs. App updates are installed when you request them to be installed, although you are nagged on startup until you do.
