A major reason for adding community tags is to be able to correctly find the correct subset of multi-meaning proper names e.g. Israel the nation vs. Israel the man ... but when Israel is used in the text, I am not offered Jacob (synonym of Israel) as an option.

In most cases, we do suggest from alternative/secondary names (eg, try "Ariel" for Jerusalem or "Reuel" for Jethro). You may have to scroll down a ways to find hits on alternative names: The ranking heuristic we use pushes exact matches for what you typed/search on to the top, then prefix matches (anything whose primary label starts with) and then hits on secondary labels beneath that. In this case, it looks like the suggestion database has not listed "Israel" as an alternative name for Jacob the patriarch, even though that information is in the underlying data. I'll file that as a bug.
