I'll probably get in denominational trouble (the literalists are pretty picky). But having just received the new Liturgical Press catalog, I was quite impressed with their highlighted Thomas Merton selection. First, I've never even heard of Thomas Merton. And second, no ... don't go scrounging in people's mailboxes for a catalog.
'At Play in Creation' - Merton's Awakening to the Feminine Divine. (I quoted that, really!). Logos is not too encouraging for the 'feminine divine' though MJ surprised me on this exact same subject. I must learn.
'In the School of Prophets' - The Formation of Thomas Merton's Prophetic Spirituality. What follows is really hard to get your head around ... William Blake, Faulkner, Kierkegaard, Marcel ... etc.
'Sophia' - The Hidden Christ of Thomas Merton.
I could go on; it's a world I'd not encountered and plan to pursue.
OT: This catalog is really an interesting one (again, not advert'ing, but Logos could do more business with LitPress). 'Does God Need the Church?' ... wow, what a great question. Plus 'How Human Is God?' by Mark Smith. I was surprised LitPress had the guts (compared to another retailer we all know and love).
