[resolved] Splash Screen doesn't go away, 6.3 Beta 1

Member Posts: 1,805 ✭✭✭

On my Mac, using the latest version of Yosemite, I often leave Logos running in a separate window. I switch to it (or launch, if it's not running) by opening Spotlight and typing "Logos." Whether it's runnig or not, a new splash screen appears... and doesn't go away, forever. Even if I quit Logos, it stays around for a minute or two, on top of all my other programs. ... this is not pleasing behavior. I don't much care for splash screens anyway, but one you can't turn off or hide, that shows up even when switching, and sticks around after you quit the program? Very displeasing. Can we fix this?

Is "new splash screen" the regular Logos splash screen?

Is this a problem when launched normally?

I'm not Ben, but I can reproduce his bug.

Is "new splash screen" the regular Logos splash screen?

Yes it is, but it went away when I selected the above text to quote in my reply to your question. However, when selecting text in Logos, the splash screen did not go away. It eventually disappeared, but as I was out of the room, I do not know how long it remained.

Is this a problem when launched normally?

    No

The splash screen should be dismissed by the application once it launches, but should only stay around for a couple of minutes before exiting if it is not dismissed by the application.

However, when selecting text in Logos, the splash screen did not go away.

Can you elaborate more on this? The splash screen should be dismissed as soon as Logos is running and should not be around after that. If you get this again, please post your logs.

I've never seen the splash screen until recently. (Logos user since 2003 :) )

But it appears when the program is already open, and loiters far too long.

Neither have I. It looks good, but sticking around isnt nice. I also had problems with it and posted about it related to another issue.

You seem to have missed the point. Ben & I are not talking about the splash screen at startup. Rather, the splash screen appears in front of everything when Logos is accessed through Spot Light. With Logos running, I started a sample process and then entered "Logos" into the Spot Light field:

    7026.LogosLogs.jackcav.20150423-055229.zip

The system switched to Logos, but the splash screen also appeared, even though Logos was already running

Selecting text in Logos did not dismiss the splash screen. Note the selected Hebrew text behind the splash screen.

Got rid of the splash screen by quitting Logos. Here are the logs:

I've also seen this, I think related to the issue of it seeming to be a different app after update and creating a new icon in the Dock — you can see in Jack's screenshots (if you zoom in!) the Logos app running at the bottom of the dock, and his saved Logos Dock icon ~1/3 from the top. I get this behaviour from clicking the old Logos icon when the new one is running, or if I run Logos from Spotlight when it is already open. FWIW you can see the new process in Activity Monitor and kill it from there.

Good catch Jon. Had seen the second icon in my Dock but had not attached any significance to it. Deleted the existing Dock icon and told the new one to stay in the Dock. That did not eliminate the intrusive splash screen however.

I can reproduce this by opening Logos via Spotlight while it is running. The splash at startup goes away quickly. Switching back to Logos by clicking the running icon in the dock does not trigger the splash screen. If you have two, clicking the inactive icon does trigger the splash screen.

    I'll create a case.

I had this same thing happen to me last night.

Never tried that, but—with Logos inactive—clicking the inactive icon would start Logos. I have since removed this extra icon.

    I'll create a case.

    Thank you.

This should be fixed in 6.3 beta 5.

    Ben

    Is this fixed?

Don't know about Ben, but I cannot make the splash screen  wear out its welcome in Beta 5. So it appears to have been fixed.
